Not really about patient zeros. Surface level discussion of some of humanity's most infamous diseases, as well as explanations of terms and medical advances throughout history. I found it just ok, kind of boring, and occasionally repetitive. But if you want a layman's textbook style intro to a bunch of diseases, it might be good for that.

Exhausted just reading this diary of a young NHS OB-GYN doctor: constant stimulus & decision-making, lack of time, lack of sleep, faint praise, strain on personal relationships. Engaging voice with a dose of snark, heartbreaking medical emergencies & spit-take hilarity. 2017
P 86 “really, the only choice is whether you f*ck over yourself or your patients. The former is annoying, the latter means that people die—so it‘s not really a choice at all.”

Medical Terminology For Dummies | Beverley Henderson, Jennifer L. Dorsey

Someone learned a new science word & is flashing it around like he knows what it is. You can‘t see mitochondrial disorders. I don‘t know what he‘s trying to imply. Mitochondrial disorders are not very common (I worked with a handful of kids in early intervention that had these disorders & I worked with the medically complicated kids at Duke). I really wish the news would ask him to define what a mitochondrial challenge looks like. Also how

ncsufoxes creepy is it that he‘s eyeing children. Also how do you define healthy? You can‘t look at a child & determine if they‘re healthy or not. That is between the child, their parents/guardians & doctors…not you. I wouldn‘t say that he looks or sounds healthy, so he shouldn‘t be one to make judgments. #ranttime 4w
lil1inblue 😡 😡 😡 The daughter of a dear friend has a mitochondrial disorder. It took quite some time to get a diagnosis. And they struggle constantly with it because it's an “invisible“ condition, so people don't believe them. My loathing of this man knows no bounds. 4w
AmyG This fucking arrogant moron. 4w

Amiable My brother said a guy who looks like an old leather baseball glove that‘s been lying in the dirt and sun and rain for 30 years should not be making medical judgments based on appearance. 😖 And it‘s totally creepy that he‘s checking out kids!! 4w
Deblovestoread What an ignorant ass! The harm he is causing is immeasurable. 4w
dabbe The willingness to play with people's lives and their health is like the Olympic gods moving men as chess pieces. The unbelievable arrogance of this fucking worm-head. And yet here we are. My anger, though, doesn't lie with him. We all have known what a disaster he would be in this position. It's for the people who voted the way they did that allowed this man to be now where he is doing the irreparable damage he is doing. #ranttime 4w

If you‘re into medical horror and thrillers, this book is for you. A newly minted doctor, fresh out of med school realizes something is very wrong about the string of recent comas taking place in the hospital she works at.
—I saw the 1978 movie and thought it was pretty disturbing—I‘d love to watch the new mini-series. Have you seen it?

AmyG Where can I watch? I saw the movie and read the book years ago. 1mo
JenniferEgnor @AmyG looks like it‘s available for rent on Amazon Prime. 1mo

I wanted to gain a comprehensive understanding of menopause. I found some helpful information and appreciated the resources she recommended for further reading. However, most of the book didn‘t apply to my current situation, and the technical language quickly lost my attention. I decided to read the chapters that piqued my interest and skipped the rest.

This book is a stunning and thorough history of cancer. There were some slower moments, particularly with the discussion of research trials, but the author‘s use of compelling scientific discoveries and personal cancer stories kept me engaged. I learned so much. Kudos to the author and narrator.
