Not really about patient zeros. Surface level discussion of some of humanity's most infamous diseases, as well as explanations of terms and medical advances throughout history. I found it just ok, kind of boring, and occasionally repetitive. But if you want a layman's textbook style intro to a bunch of diseases, it might be good for that.

Someone learned a new science word & is flashing it around like he knows what it is. You can‘t see mitochondrial disorders. I don‘t know what he‘s trying to imply. Mitochondrial disorders are not very common (I worked with a handful of kids in early intervention that had these disorders & I worked with the medically complicated kids at Duke). I wanted to gain a comprehensive understanding of menopause. I found some helpful information and appreciated the resources she recommended for further reading. However, most of the book didn‘t apply to my current situation, and the technical language quickly lost my attention. I decided to read the chapters that piqued my interest and skipped the rest.

This book is a stunning and thorough history of cancer. There were some slower moments, particularly with the discussion of research trials, but the author‘s use of compelling scientific discoveries and personal cancer stories kept me engaged. I learned so much. Kudos to the author and narrator.
An astounding amount of research that was put together well. Informative and interesting.
