Pickpick

Ruth‘s memoir of her mother was a sad one. Feminist in nature, we get a glimpse into a life where choices for education, career, and marriage were not allowed. Miriam wanted more for her daughter than what she had; it wasn‘t until late in her life that she finally had some joy and the liberation she‘d always dreamed of. Only then did Ruth begin to understand her nature. I find it funny that Miriam was such an awful cook, and Ruth ended up⬇️

JenniferEgnor working at a high end magazine, Gourmet, and, was a respected food critic. Gourmet was the magazine that taught me how to cook; it was the magazine that I fell in love with each month. This little memoir is an important one for the times we live in, as the misogyny towards women is growing more with each day. Choices matter. Women are people. 3w

I read this solely because I was being lazy - it ticked off three prompts on the Goodreads reading challenges
Note to self: choose books because they genuinely interest you, not to satisfy a prompt.
This was repetitive, unintentionally funny in places, and I didn‘t like the writing style. The best review of it I‘ve seen is “if Temu wrote Misery”…

Book 64/80 #Read2025 @DieAReader

Jari-chan I also had to learn that checking off prompts with random books doesn't satisfy me in the slightest 🙈 4w

Pickpick

The story begins with a car accident that leaves the main character, Teagan, stranded in a remote forest with an injured foot when a huge nightmare of a man Hank rescues her and takes her home with him. But is Hank scary and evil? As the tension builds, layers of deception unravel, revealing that not everyone is who they seem. I was shocked by it all!

I would love to see this book used as a mentor text! I think students could enjoy writing through the POV of a random object in their life. For instance, an object in a thrift store like the type writer, or even their own pencil!

shelbsreads In my creative writing class, we did an activity like that. It was really fun and engaging. We all had a lot of fun reading our work to one another, and seeing our personalities and perspectives come out through our work. 2mo
jkmac9717 This sounds like such a fun show-and-tell-like activity! You could do a brief exercise with writing from an object‘s POV as a warm-up, or you could do it multiple times to focus on different story elements (tone, word choice, etc.) through a similar lens each time. Alternatively, you could assign one object to the whole class and see where each student‘s own perspectives and ideas come into their writing as they discuss with peers. Very versatile! 2mo
