South African apartheid
This is a very interesting read about the end of Apartheid. I learned so much. Mandela was a visionary. He took a revolution and expertly molded it with the goal to limit violence, ironically by using one of the most violent sports. It is hard to believe what Mandela was able to do, it honestly is such a movie moment
I enjoyed this book the writing was easy to digest

As someone in the US who has really gotten into rugby the last 2 years, and who quickly became a huge Springbok fan, this book has been super interesting.
One of the most popular Springbok player is a white man named Fif de Klerk I had to look up if he was related to the president who transferred power to Mandela (he is not).
I do wish there was more rugby talk in this first half, but I am learning so much
pickWhen I was reading this I legitimately didn't know much about this game as I don't know much...OK nothing about rugby. At the end of this book I couldn't read fast enough to find out how it was going to end! Another one I highly recommend if you're looking for a solid #nonfiction read.
pickThis #chunkster #nonfictionread should be required reading for all! So much to learn and understand. Whilst there are a few dry moments overall I found this to be a very consuming read. From learning about his childhood all the way through his struggles and arrest and how this touched him after. I learned so much.
I enjoyed watching these geese cross the parking lot because every car patiently waited for them. 🥰
This little bit of joy refills my hope in humanity as I read the tagged book. So much I didn‘t know about Nelson Mandela.

pickIn the first half, I found his personal life more interesting than his work/political life. But the second half really picked up for me. I found his time as a prisoner the most interesting part of the book. He (and the other political prisoners) managed to continue to fight as much as they could from within the prison walls. He really was an amazing man, but sadly his family life suffered for everything he did for the people of South Africa
pickThis is a comprehensive autobiography that covers Mandela‘s life from birth to his presidency of South Africa. I was drawn to this book as I wanted to know more about his incarceration; why he was unjustly confined and how he survived 27 years in custody. My curiosities were satisfied and I gained significantly more knowledge about Mandela and how he fought for human rights and racial equality.
