There‘s a new book in the “Elephant & Piggie Like Reading” series, and it‘s awesome!
Of course it is, the author/illustrator is Bryan Collier!

This audiobook was so much fun!
I would recommend you pick up this book if...
You are a fan of Firefly/Serenity
You like space capers
You like strong female characters
You like science (that‘s not too broad, is it?)
You like Science Fiction
I could go on, but if none of the above interests you, that‘s okay, and this one‘s not for you.

Nia showers love on Alfie but he never seems to respond so soon she just sort of forgets about him until the day he disappears! Alfie, on the other hand, loves Nia but processes things at a pretty slow speed. He wants to get Nia the perfect birthday present and goes on an adventure to find it.
A cute picture book about different perspectives.

I am loving this audiobook so much. I started it as part of my "exploring other cultures" reading initiative, focusing on books without a white protagonist. It's giving me Man Called Ove vibes ... I love cranky older characters who are inherently good. Beautiful story telling and wonderful premise. #notawhiteprotagonist
I started at work, continued while at the chiropractor, picked it up while dinner cooked, again after D was in bed and husband watched TV, finished while hair dried. If life didn't have to happen, I would have finished in one sitting! I truly cared about Carlos.
I was drawn to this story part because of my current #litsygoespostalog selection, part because #litsypoetry365 and part #Notawhiteprotagonist
For me, gets all the ✨
Forget the movie, it leaves out the most important parts.
This is the true story of four undocumented teens who battled in a national robotics competition against college students. It's also the story of what happened to these kids AFTER the national robotics competition.
This is a fantastic story, and if you are looking to better understand what life is like for undocumented youth, I think this a must read.

This wonderful, simple story follows three students from different countries adjusting to a new school. It's a lovely and hopeful read for early grade schoolers.

This bilingual book of poetry tells stories of immigrants from El Salvador with illustrations in acrylic. Beautifully told, and beautifully illustrated.

I'm trying to read diversely, but it's been awhile since I've read a book with a LGBTQ+ protagonist.
I'm so glad I picked this one up.
Not only did I enjoy the story, but I needed to hear the examination of white feminism from a Latinx perspective. I also appreciated this take on including transgender women in feminism:
"For me, womanhood is radical enough for anyone who dares to claim it."
