My collaborator and best friend Michael Sheehan, Jr. and I both love movies about mummies and ancient Egypt, and we visited the King Tut exhibit four times, when it came to a local museum. I've loved the works of H.P. Lovecraft since I was a teenager, so this book was a labor of love for both of us.

Twelfth and (hooray!) last novel in Rohmer's series featuring supervillain Fu Manchu This one has our heroes going undercover in China to stop Fu Manchu from fighting Communists -- because if he wins he just might take over the world. Or something: it doesn't make a lot of sense but there are zombies and creepy killer insects. The goofy plot and cool monsters do not balance out the series's other flaws, which are the usual.

They also wore black - different colours of black. That was his first introduction to the tertiary colours - the colours on the far side of blackness. The colours that you get if you split blackness with an eightsided prism. #terrypratchett #speakhisname #gnuterrypratchett #pratchett #pyramids #discworld

My 4 year old daughter got this amazing Playmobil set for Christmas which she'd wanted all year & absolutely loves. I couldn't resist the learning opportunity so got her the Usborne flap book to accompany it. It covers topics such as the Nile, the Pyramids, royal burial & the ruins today - there is a lot of information! Usborne never disappoint - their books are perfect for inquisitive minds.

Also I've been playing with this set myself- it's ace!

batsy That is so fun! 😍 5y
Amiable My sons loved Playmobil when they were younger--this set would have been right up their alley! 5y
Sresendez12 I love Usborne books! We are still in the infant book stage, but I‘m glad to know the books are still good as they get older 😀 5y

saresmoore Yay for Playmobil and Usborne! We‘ve quite a bit of both floating around the house. 5y
suzisteffen This is cool! Will have to look into it for the niblings. 5y
Butterfinger I want this for me. It has taken me nine days to read the October Horse about Caesar and Cleopatra. It's a great book, just long and we're starting the second semester. I would have loved this to role play appropriate scenes with my 7 year old. ♥️ 5y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I enjoyed this one, it read like three interconnected short stories, like a short story trilogy, so it seemed a bit disjointed, but I liked the overall story. 5y

julesG @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Well, you know that I think the story has too many angles. 😉 I think Teppic is a tepid character. 😁 5y
Laura317 I got bored with it once Teppic went home. I much prefer his Assassin Guild life. Not sure what this says about me. 😂@julesG @Riveted_Reader_Melissa 5y
julesG @Laura317 Same here, Ankh Morpork is just much more interesting. The Assassin's Guild is fun. I liked the exam Teppic had to take. 5y
Gezemice Oh, my favorite is when he gets dresses as pharaoh the first time. Hilarious 😁 5y
dariazeoli I agree with the thought that this felt disjointed, like three different stories. I did like the idea of the entombed pharaohs being annoyed with being entombed. 😁 5y
julesG I thought that embracing the old ways with a passion (just going to mention sleeping, walking, plumbing here) was very thought provoking, apart from being hilarious. 5y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @dariazeoli Yes, I liked that too, and how they worked together to communicate over the centuries...We don‘t understand that archaic version anymore, but someone does, and they translated it up the generations, I thought that was very clever. 5y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @julesG Yes, I agree there. 5y
julesG @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I was waiting for some major error in the translations. 5y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @julesG Like the old telephone game!😂 5y
julesG @Riveted_Reader_Melissa Exactly! I was hoping something major would get lost in translation at first, but due to the chain being so long, also be recovered at the end. 5y
khooliha This one had some good imagery/moments near the end, like having to assassinate a pyramid or how Teppic's ancestors support and bolster him in his time of need, but so much of this book fell flat for me. Ptraci exists just as a joke and I don't think it's a funny one. Teppic doesn't make much of an impression as the lead, and can we ditch the comedic incest? 5y
khooliha The opening segment did make me wish that Sir Terry had written a full blown parody of the "boys coming of age in boarding schools" subgenre. 5y
khooliha Also? Too much of the story around Teppic smacked of colonialism. 5y
julesG @khooliha Can I just say, I agree to all of your points? You've put my feelings and thoughts into words! 5y
