I am intrigued by this novel about an unwed mother in 1880s Philadelphia, published just a day or two ago! (It would've been a great one for the #PhiladelphiaFreedom prompt.)

ValerieAndBooks I will have to watch for this one, especially since I live near Philadelphia! 7y

I will always have a soft spot for this story (set in Philly) as it was the first time I read "I Carry Your Heart With Me" by e.e. cummings. The poem made such an impression on me that it was read at our wedding several years later (along with the lyrics to "Grow Old With You" from The Wedding Singer ?). #rockinmay #philadelphiafreedom #shinethelight #ifearnofate #iwantnoworld

#rockinmay day 7: #philadelphiafreedom. I know I've read great books set in Philly, but I'm drawing a blank right now. The best I can do is Revolutionary War-era history. From my TBR shelf.

Cinfhen Definitely is fitting for #PhiladelphiaFreedom 👍🏻 7y

So, I wasn't sure where to go with the prompt #philadelphiafreedom, but I decided to go with recent reads by authors from Pennsylvania. I don't track cities, only states, so I don't know if any of them are actually from Philly - the background pic is from a baseball game in Pittsburgh lol #rockinmay

RanaElizabeth I know that bridge! Go Pirates! 8y
bookwrm526 @RanaElizabeth indeed! PNC is one of our favorites of the 15 major league stadiums we've been to 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage I know A.S. King is from Central PA, not the two big cities east and west. Not sure about the others! 7y
Cinfhen That's a great way to work the prompt 😊👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻and I had no idea these were PA authors! 7y

Had to wait until today for #PhiladelphiaFreedom because this book was in my classroom. It gives quick biographies of the men who built the Constitution in Philly.

North Carolina Founder Fun Facts:

Hugh Williamson was a brilliant doctor who studied in Utrecht!

Richard Spaight became governor, founded UNC Chapel Hill, and died in a duel!

William Blount was a total dirtbag who stole money and land and eventually committed treason!

#RockinMay

saresmoore Hahaha! Those ARE fun facts. 8y
Cinfhen #liveandlearn thanks for sharing ❤️ 8y
queerbookreader Ack I had to dress up as Blount for a debate in my high school AP US class 😂😂😂 8y
