This won‘t be everyone‘s cup of tea but I actually enjoyed it! He had such interesting ideas. I think he was far ahead in thinking compared to other historical figures we learn about.
I own a physical copy too so another off #mountTBR

#ThisRemindsMeOf a text convo between my friend and I the other day! She isn‘t into nonfiction 😂
I do find it interesting though! 🤓
Featuring my glasses that I‘m wearing these days because I keep forgetting to make an eye appointment!

Centique I agree with you! He is super interesting 👍🤓 6y

Benjamin Franklin: pompous, self-righteous, know-it-all and a miser. Doesn't he even look like Mr. Burns?

Luckily, his autobiography turns out to be a quick and unintentionally funny read.

Mehso-so

He talked about his childhood, his younger days starting his business, and the good he tried to do for the young country, not the war or his experiments with electricity. He didn't write about anything that would be considered boastful. Yes, there's a part of me that is disappointed that he didn't discuss those things, but I'm also pleased with what he did share and feel like I have a better insight into his character.

What came to mind for #autobiography is a podcast episode from On the Media's series on the myths surrounding poverty in the US. Highly recommended! They talk about Ben Franklin's autobiography, which was key in building America's rags to riches narrative. What it doesn't address is that his intelligent, literate sister was never able to pull herself out of poverty like he did - the rags to riches story largely applies to white men. #readjanuary

leslieisreading Google "on the media busted" or "on the media poverty" if you're interested in listening to the five episode podcast series. 7y

We have an English proverb that says, "He that would thrive, must ask his wife." (Smart man old Benjamin)

I'm starting my #litsyatoz with this book. Reading nonfiction is definitely not my thing, and I hardly ever pick up autobiographies. But I have a great app called Serial Reader that sends bite-sized, easily digestible bits of older works every day to your phone or tablet, and I just can't pass up such an easy and managable way to read classics and lesser known works from the past. Check out the app, and start this book. It's actually awesome!

These are the books that I won in #ThePoconoBookClub's #bookgrabbag 😁👍🏻! We were only supposed to win one, but the member who wrapped these together said they both go together so well that they're inseparable in his mind. I'll find out soon enough, since these will be my reads for our January meeting 😊. I'm pulling double-duty, and that's just fine with me 😎👌🏻. Next book grab bag is Sunday with our #2030SomethingBookClub 😁👏🏻.

Titania Quite a unique book combo! 7y
Oftencantdecide Hmmm... maybe books about accomplished men named Ben who rose from humble beginnings? Still seems a bit of a stretch though... 7y
Kimzey Because they're both named Ben? 🤔 7y
