Reagan: The Life | H. W. Brands

Pickpick

This book doesn‘t just tell you about Reagan, it tells you about America too. It makes you understand why Reagan changed from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party. You understand the Cold War, even from Gorbachev‘s POV. Brands draws parallels between Reagan and FDR. Everything is laid out in solid, readable, detail. Excellent biography! I‘ve already stacked H.W. Brands‘ other works. 4/44 #PresidentialBiographies

Crazeedi I'll have to look into this one! 6y
AshleyHoss820 @Crazeedi Yes, do!! My copy was 737 pages long, but it is very readable! 😊😊😊 6y

American Sphinx | Joseph J. Ellis

Joseph Ellis strikes again! His work is readable & his writing is gorgeous. “If Hamilton came at you with the saber, Marshall preferred the stiletto.” Jefferson was a confusing man but we cannot take him out of his time and put him under our 21st century microscope. It doesn‘t work like that. This book is less a biography & more a highlight on TJ as a human being, warts & all. If you haven‘t read Ellis yet, GET TO IT! #PresidentialBiographies 3/44

John Adams | David McCullough

“Do justly. Love mercy. Walk humbly. This is enough.” —John Adams, in a letter to his granddaughter

Teddy R is my favorite president. After finishing this biography, John Adams is now in my Top Five. This dense book reads easily and covers a lot of territory. The love story between John and Abigail Adams is one for the ages. He founded our Navy. He stood behind America and what he believed to be correct, unwavering. 2/44

“First in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen.”

If more textbooks were written like this, more people would be scholars of history! I loved it and have a new appreciation for His Excellency!

#PresidentialBiographies 1/44 (technically Trump is 45, but Cleveland served two separate terms and is therefore counted twice...)
