Started this today - read the intro and part one. This piece was a difficult one to swallow. I can't even imagine the things that these people have had to endure as a luxury of where I happened to be born. Looking forward to gaining more insight to something I don't know a whole lot about #learningthroughreading #readingwithoutwalls

Who needed another book challenge? This lady! BookBar made a Reading Without Walls Bingo board for grown ups based on the kid version. Started it off with Every Soul A Star, which was wonderful. Let's see what I can complete by the end of Aug! #BookBarDenver #ReadingWithoutWalls #BookBingo

merelybookish I saw this and considered doing it but I'm starting to think I'm not really cut out for reading challenges. 7y
Ruri_kaichou @merelybookish i may not be cut out for challenges as well. Lol. I really like them though 😊 it's a fun way to help broaden my horizons 7y

This spring I shared Gene Luen Yang's #readingwithoutwalls challenge with my fifth graders. I thought I better challenge myself too.

I didn't know much about this book before reading it, except that it had received numerous accolades. I loved the storytelling and the gorgeous language - certain scenes are embedded in my brain forever.

I'm doing the #readingwithoutwalls challenge with my teen book club, and this was my choice for a topic I don't know much about 🐦

Spoiler: Birds do have knees, but they're hidden by the feathers close to the torso. The part of the leg that bends backwards is their ankle 🤓

"A satiric recounting of the pious struggle of Elijah, Elisha and Jeri as they fight for the immortal souls of their people. Based on the bestselling book The Bible written by God." Also, it's a graphic novel. Okay, I'll bite. #readingwithoutwalls #graphicnovels #biblestories #satire #whatishappening #arc

My library is celebrating Chinese culture. They've dedicated an entire wall to panels from Gene Luen Yang's book. ❤ #Ilovemylibrary #readingwithoutwalls

BookishTrish Permanently or is it a display? Either way it looks great! 8y
LindsayReads I'd like to know, too! That is so wonderful! 8y
angrylilasian @BookishTrish @LindsayReads Just for this month. They feature a different artist on this wall every month. I love going in to see what's new. I'm going to ask who gets the panels when they take it down. 😆 8y
EricQiao Not an ABC but that book looks very interesting! 8y
angrylilasian @EricQiao it is! I also recommend his 8y

I Dreamt...: A Book about Hope | Gabriela Olmos, Elisa Amado

This book is gorgeous and yet completely devastating. I couldn't bring myself to read it to my kids (5 and 3) but I was so glad *I* read it.

The pages I feature above read (from top to bottom):
I dreamt of pistols that shoot butterflies...
I dreamt that wars are always fought with flowers...
[Some trees] grow despite everything. And it is they who help all to breathe. (Trees = kids)

"I think of those words now, as I sag between two legionnaires in the dungeons below Blackcliff. Loyal to the end. Loyal to whom? My family? The Empire? My own heart? Damn my heart to the hells. My heart is what landed me here in the first place." #readingwithoutwalls #diversebooks

This book was so much more than I expected in the best possible way! Yes it is a story about two priests trying to help find a serial child murderer (big TW) in the Philippines. But it also deals with political corruption, intense poverty, abuse of religious power, and the cycle of child abuse. If you like crime mysteries this is a must read!
