Bossypants | Tina Fey
Bailedbailed

This was an IRL book club pick: I just couldn‘t get into the pop culture/humour, although I appreciated some of what Fey had to say about challenges she faces as a woman comedian and artist. Other club members really enjoyed it. I guess I‘m Just Too Serious.🧐

Today‘s episode of The Checkout Stack features a book end of celebrity memoirs! My personal favorite celebrity memoir is by far Bossypants by Tina Fey. I didn‘t know I could laugh so hard at a book. Tina‘s life story is fascinating and her comedy hilarious. What celebrity memoirs have you read?

BookmarkTavern I adored Cary Elwes‘s memoir of the making of The Princess Bride! And thank you for the reminder that I need to visit the Provo library the next time I‘m down there! 💖 8mo
thecheckoutstack Ooo @BookmarkTavern that sounds amazing! 8mo
BookmarkTavern The audiobook is amazing! He reads it himself, and a bunch of other people from the movie drop in to voice their own bits! 8mo

Pickpick

This was a hard read. Chris‘s life is told through quotes from people who knew him through every phase of his life. Almost all of it is heartbreaking. You see his family, particularly his father, enabling him at a young age. Chris‘s love and personality and generosity really shine though; I almost feel like I know him at this point. So then reading his descent to death kind of felt like I was losing him all over again, if that makes sense? Cont…

Lauranahe I remember when he died, and how horrible it was. But reading about all his volunteer work, his spirituality, his insecurity, and need for love while putting so much out there for others…it‘s heartbreaking. I felt down a lot while reading this. (edited) 10mo
TheBookHippie I cried through this whole book. 10mo
Lauranahe I did feel like crying several times. When I finished it last night and went to bed, my husband was like “what‘s wrong?” Nothing, except I just finished the Chris Farley book. 😭 So devastating. 10mo

Mehso-so

There were parts of this I thought were well done and parts that were meh. When Molly talks about her family, it was so sincere and heartfelt. When she talks about her acting life it seemed flimsy and for shock value. She did okay as the narrator.

Pickpick

A book for its time (2011) in terms of current events and entertainment, but I also found it relevant regarding other topics like, working moms, and sexism. Tina Fey makes smart and funny observations and I really enjoyed reading her writing.
