Cracking up because the Libby edition has the “this is the end of disc 1”, etc. announcements. 😂

I enjoyed it. The Scarpetta 1st person POVs are the best ones (idk why this series has so many format changes) the set up for this one was neat, but it did seem drawn out in the beginning w/3 different scenarios demanding Kay‘s attention. & No idea why there had to be a connection with a victim & Scarpetta‘s team… the amount of times that has happened is silly. But ultimately the action was so good.
Meh. Plot seemed slow. And stretched. Gives off too much “the world revolves around Kay” vibes. And then the character wonders why some people despise her.
Plus the audiobook narrator was not great. She did fine with the voice of Kay, but Lucy sounded like Eyore and I don‘t know what accent she thought she was afflicting Marino with, but it sure wasn‘t a Jersey one, and that‘s a critique from someone who grew up in Jersey.
The 30+ years between when it was published and now is evident, but I enjoyed it for the most part and plan on continuing the series.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
I‘ve been pretty disenchanted with Scarpetta the last few novels but this feels like the Scarpetta of old.
Need opinions on whether I should try Scarpetta books again or just enjoy the TV show when it premieres in 2025.
Last Scarpetta book I read is tagged. How many times can a serial killer go after this woman? I know series authors churn the same tropes, but Cornwell seemed to be really stuck. I‘ve searched for fan wikis about Cornwell/Kay to no avail. Book bloggers seem to have given up around the same time as me.

The series seems to be back on track. Again we stick with Scarpetta instead of head hopping. Insecurities make sense, even if some previous plot lines seem washed away.
A cold case & a slew of suspicious death impacts 1 of their own. Wraps up a little quick, but the science makes sense & the connections were intriguing.
It is so satisfying to revisit characters crafted by an author that you‘ve read for years. They‘re so familiar; like spending time with old friends. In Cornwell‘s latest, Kay Scarpetta is investigating the death of an old flame who was apparently dropped from a UPA into an abandoned theme park. All the usual folk are helping: Marino, Lucy and Benton. The archenemy, back from the grave, Carrie Gretchen threatens. An enjoyable read.
