Symbols & Shadows: Unlocking a Deeper Understanding of the Atonement | Jay A. Parry, Donald W. Parry

The overtly religious episodes of DS9 are always my least favorites. The Prophets and the Pah-Wraiths, Sisko's visions and mystical quest wasn't interesting to me. I did enjoy the introduction of Ezri Dax. It was hard getting over the loss of Jadzia, but Ezri was an interesting character in her own right.

DS9 7.02 #ShadowsAndSymbols A return to Far Beyond the Stars: Benny/Sisko struggle between reality and vision as he finds himself struggling between Prophets and Pah-wraiths. There begin the End Times for the Bajorans and for the series. We meet Ezri.

The tagged book is good, but not critical enough to my taste. It stops short of denouncing appropriation and colonialism, which informs almost all the symbols therein.

SW-T Colonialism gets so deeply imbedded in a culture that‘s it‘s hard for anyone who‘s part of it or familiar with it to separate them. 5y

The Da Vinci code | Dan Brown

Admission: I‘ve never read a Dan Brown book. But they seem to be a good choice for #ShadowsandSymbols. Should I try one?

I love this episode, mainly because of the false vision from the Pah Wraiths. I love how Casey Biggs and Avery Brooks played it. It was also a good introduction arc for Ezri.

Reggie Read Angels and Demons by him first. I think it‘s better than this one. 5y

Texreader I‘ve only read one of his books and was not impressed. To many other better writers in my opinion. Maybe someday I‘ll try a different one since he is so well-liked. 5y

Soubhiville I enjoyed the first couple. Especially Angels and Demons. If you‘re into really fast paced thrillers that pull a lot from art and art history and theology, maybe give it a try. Each novel takes place in a 24 hour time frame. 5y

JamieArc I agree with @Soubhiville I read The Da Vinci Code while in France, so the art, history, and setting aspects I really liked. But when I read more of his (I think it was Digital Fortress or something like that), it felt too formulaic and I got bored. 5y

Larkken They fall in a sort of genre subset where the setting is at least as important as the story - sorta like @JamieArc said, I enjoyed the first couple bc Brown's integration of things and places I knew about were cleverly done. 5y

britt_brooke He‘s a guilty pleasure for me, but his writing is pretty mediocre. I love the architecture and symbolism. They‘re usually pretty fast-paced and entertaining (except The Lost Symbol. I didn‘t care for that one). 5y
