Came into the story with only the basics: 4 turtles raised by a wise rat ninja. They live in the sewers and LOVE pizza. 2 of the 4 brothers are named, Michael Angelo and Leonardo.
This held its own. Easily a standalone. Actually, was glad that I hadn't came with emotional attachment to any of the characters...otherwise might have thrown the book a few times.
Either way, still managed to make me cry...can't believe that the TMNT made me cry LOL.
Not quite typical “art of” book. Has concept art for characters & scenery. As well as vehicles & interviews. I love hearing these commentary from the artists about the character designs. How they got to where they were. Don‘t usually get these, and I just loved this movie so much I had to nab it. This iteration was just so unique; with everything. Took a chance and it payed off I believe. Also; Didn‘t realize Don is the youngest here. #tmnt
Although my big brother had been a fan, I have never really given TMNT a real chance.
When I was little, I watched him play with his TMNT action figures 💕💝. Wish I could say which of the brothers he favorited.
A few months ago, I saw this Ronin action figure and I purchased it to add to my brother's collection...which I have inherited (although I currently have them in storage).
Then I found all these! OK I guess I'm an official fan now 😄🍕.
74/150 My only exposure to the TMNT has been through the kids cartoons and the usually awful movie versions of the characters. I've never read any of the original comics, but now I want to, because this was great. The story is dark and sad, gritty and pretty violent. The artwork by Esau & Isaac Escorza, with interludes by Kevin Eastman & Peter Laird, was also amazing. 4 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
2nd book finished for #20in4 @Andrew65
The art is gorgeous and dark throughout. The story is rapid, and action-packed. I‘m only a quarter into this graphic novel and I‘m in love with TMNT all over again.
Eastman and Laird return to the characters they created to tell the story of the turtles' tragic demise. Ironically, TMNT became a phenomenon in the hands of others with less grim sensibilities. Eastman and Laird's original vision was much closer to Frank Miller than the hit tv show. There are some great action moments, but the villain is incredibly flat and the writing is utterly humorless.
The Last Ronin is Eastman and Laird's version of Days of Future Past.

We start out in Dimension X, but unlike the previous volume this one brings the action back to NY. There is a lot of backstory and setup taking place in this volume, and the lines are starting to blur when it comes to who the allies/enemies are for the Turtles.
I feel another Battle for the City coming, which I'm excited for.
