Cuilin Every book I‘m reading lately seems to have parallels to current times, Hard Times, Les Mis, Anna Karenina,, and Tudor Times. I‘m realizing that not enough people read these books or history and it shows. 11mo

RamsFan1963 I just read Henry V biography by Dan Jones, and now I'm reading The War of The Roses, also by Jones. It sounds like something I need to read next. 11mo

The Wise Woman: A Novel | Philippa Gregory

I didn't love this book but I didn't hate it either - it was a little long but I'll never forget it. The book seems to be true to it's time. I wish the witchcraft had been dialed down a bit. It seemed overdone at times, making the book less historical fiction. The characters are all awful people and the relationships absolutely toxic - but I feel this works for the time period. This is a dark read.

Note: Many trigger warnings in this book.

Cuilin I understand, magical realism can ruin a book for me. I don‘t mind a sprinkling but too much takes me out of the time period and becomes more of the fantasy genre. 11mo

I had to bail it after I went to another two chapters. This is definitely not a good book for an audiobook. I could not follow half of the thoughts because a zillion of names have been mentioned. I am pretty sure in ghe printed version there‘s a deawing of a family tree or something, but to follow the branches of a family without the possibility to see it does not work. And then this weird computerized voice. Not my thing. 🤦‍♀️

This ebook sounded very interesting but the recording sounds like an automatic computer reading out the text. I am not sure if I will be able to listen to it for another 15 hours even though I am really interested in the topic. It is just too difficult to listen to. 🙈

What should have been an interesting story reads more like a textbook IMO - dry and to the point with lack of emotion so dissatisfied and with that I‘m on to the next book .. hopefully adventure awaits 😃
