An attempt is made on Cosimo de' Medici's life but this is only a feint. The real plot means a trip to Venice for Aldo, the one place he has always sworn he would never return to.

This episode is not so much a mystery as a very enjoyable spy thriller full of crosses and double crosses. Though the ending hints at where Aldo's story might go next, I do think the Contessa needs her own series.

Fascinating look at Paris in the last half of the 19th Century, as seen through the eyes of a woman who experienced life in all social stratas. The grit and the glamour, she lived it all, from circus performer to courtesan to famous opera singer. But even as a smart, talented woman, she was at the mercy of people - primarily men - more powerful. On the whole, a rather sad tale.

Soft pick - I enjoyed this book set in Paris during the late 1800's about two sisters finding their way after their fathers death. It was a good look into the time period and what young girls had to do to survive but also how certain choices could impact their lives. I did find I wanted to put the book down at times in the beginning but I'm glad I finished. The way the author intertwined the story with some boy criminals at the time was well done.

#BookedinTime. Belle Époque Paris

It has been months since I‘ve completed a prompt for this challenge. Thanks to @ChaoticMissAdventures for this recommendation. I really enjoyed it.

After confiding in her grandmother that she sees her deceased grandfather, Eugénie finds herself committed to the Salpêtrière asylum.

ChaoticMissAdventures I love how she brings so much humanity to the women. A stark reminder of how far we have come (even if we have a long way to go still) 2w
