Bailedbailed

Tried to read this for #BookedinTime, but I have to throw in the towel. The narrative is plodding and pedantic and the dialogue comes across as lectures by the characters. Life is too short —moving on.

Cuilin #HailTheBail I completely get it!!! I seem to be doing this a lot lately, myself. Here‘s hoping your next read is five stars. 17h
Amiable @Cuilin I was listening to a podcast and someone made a comment that we are only here for a finite time and can only read so many books, so why waste that time on a book you aren‘t enjoying? It was like she was speaking directly to me and telling me to ditch this book. 😀 2h

Pickpick

I did enjoy this book and enjoyed learning about the Spanish Civil War and Children of Morelia - but I did find the book never fully drew me in. I do wonder, when English isn't the first language of a book, if reading it in it's original language would have a bigger impact. The book cover also bothers me a bit because it's a book about three siblings finding their way. I still enjoyed the read and my heart breaks for all who lived through this!

Trying to get a bit of outdoor reading time in before it starts to rain. I know little about the Spanish Civil War and the Children of Morelia. I expect this will be a hard read but I'm looling forward to learning about this part of history.

Cuilin I‘m looking forward to your thoughts on this one. 3w

For May‘s #FictionalTraveler #SpanishSpeaking prompt, I will be traveling to Ecuador. Where will everyone else be traveling? Have you ever been to that location in real life? I have never been to Ecuador. 🇪🇨

BarkingMadRead I‘m going to Mexico! I‘ve been there a couple of times, but only on cruises. 3w

#BookedInTime #BookedInTimeMay2025 #BookedInTimeSpanishCivilWar

There‘s so many I want to read!!! How about you?

Cuilin The two sides of the Spanish Civil War are the left side, known as the Republicans, was formed by the Spanish government together with unions, communists, anarchists, workers, and peasants. On the other side were the Nationalists, the rebel part of the army, the bourgeoisie, the landlords, and, generally, the upper classes. 4w

I was reading this for #BookedInTime when the details started to seem familiar. Checked LibraryThing and turns out I had read it in 2014. According to my review I was just meh on it then too so I‘m moving on.

Cuilin 👍 I DNF‘d mine. 😞 I just couldn‘t get into it. 4w
Bookwormjillk @Cuilin I‘ll have to see if I can find something else later in the year. I really wanted to like it! 4w

#recentreads
The bad news is I'm still looking for a job. The good news is I love my current job, and I'm still able to listen to books while I work. These are mostly four-star reads that I've read in April.
I chose a reread of one of my favorite High School required reading novels for #BookedInTime :China
April 2025 @Cuilin

Cuilin Oh lovely. ✅ 🎉 Unfortunately I DNF‘d mine. 4w
