What a wonderful book. It does this book a disservice to call it a comedy or a tragedy or any one thing. It is a layered story with interesting and lovable characters. It has a perspective and, yes, it made me laugh. I cannot recommend this book enough.

The soundtrack of the tagged play was released in 1970 and my dad bought the album. I was 11. Somewhere in the mid 60‘s my mother became a Seventh Day Adventist and our household drastically changed. Listening to this album constantly was an act of rebellion. She HATED it. This clip popped up on IG yesterday so I thought why not share here. I still know all the words.

Suet624 I‘m with you. I know pretty much every word of this play. 1w
Ruthiella I am an atheist and I love this musical. Particularly the film version with Carl Anderson as Judas. What a performance ! 👏👏👏 1w
quietjenn Such a favorite! 1w
TieDyeDude My mom had the soundtrack on vinyl and CD. We didn't have to rebel to listen to it, but it's awesome that you did 😁 4d

The Father | Florian Zeller

So many of these movies are on my To-Watch list, but I did better than I expected.

There are the three I've seen that shook my core. Not necessarily the best or my favorite, but the most memorable:

The Father - A mind-blowing, soul-crushing portrayal of dementia
The Tree of Life - More than a few walked out of the screening I was in. I don't know if I liked it, but it was art
The Substance - Not for the squeamish, but brilliant

Falsettos | James Lapine, William Finn

This is not book-related (although his musical Falsettos won Best Book at the 1992 Tonys!) but I had to take a moment to mourn William Finn, one of the greatest musical theatre composers to ever do it. If you're a theatre kid, join me in listening to Falsettos, A New Brain, Spelling Bee, and Elegies on repeat today. If you're not a theatre kid, can I interest you in discovering some damn good music and poignant stories? #SeeMoreTheatre

TBH, I forgot I had this #Music (or rather musical) title sitting in my Kindle TBR but it looks interesting. 🎶🎵🎼

Love Letters | A. R. Gurney

This play was so popular when I was in forensics in high school. It was THE choice for Dramatic Duets. I've also seen it performed in full several times. But never with any of the pictured stars. I would have loved to see Alan Alda and Candice Bergen.

MaleficentBookDragon I am a big Carol Burnett fan. 4w
lil1inblue @MaleficentBookDragon I would love to have seen her tackle this, too! I'm not sure who she was paired with, but her and Brian Dennehy would be a great combo. 4w

I felt that the book delivered what it was meaning to, which was shed light on privilege and racism in the theather world.

I sometimes felt annoyed by the attitudes displayed by Hugo and Eddie, but it was overall a great read that gave you something to think about.

This being the author's debut novel already has me looking forward to what she will come up with in the future.
