The first day of my two week “vacation” - which doesn‘t mean no work, just no meetings! - and I met my goal of finishing this book and marking some pages for workshops/trainings I‘m planning to run next year. 🥰

This woman is brilliant and inspiring. I wish I had read this book 20 years ago, but I am gratified to have read it now. Highly recommend recommended.

"One molecule of carbon dioxide. Small quiet insignificant."
A book about how one person can make a difference and climate change. I think we'll read this before or next day of service.

Popovic was part of the movement (Otpor) that ousted Milosevic from power in Serbia, and this book is a handbook of sorts—taking principles from Otpor and discussing how those principles could be applied in a variety of contexts, using nonviolent activism and resistance to effect change. The wealth of examples he offers are inspiring and often hilarious. I can‘t help but wonder if the Portland Frog was inspired by this book… ⤵️

BarbaraJean (Cont‘d) I read this with an online book group over the summer, and I‘m so glad I did. The final session was a discussion with the author—rich with relevant and practical ideas for our current context in the USA. 2mo
JamieArc I read this years ago when it first came out and I think about it all the time. I think it‘s been the book I recommend most these days. I, too, thought of the connection between Portland and this book. I‘ve been hoping someone would get into some creative protest! 2mo
BarbaraJean @JamieArc Right?! I just keep talking about it. I even talked about it with my (conservative but horrified by Trump) dad as we saw protests over the weekend here in the LA area. I was so glad to see the creative protests in Portland and am hoping that kind of action gets more prominent. 2mo

Another fantastic birthday week.

1) My brother and I gift books on our birthdays. Last year he brought me two books from Switzerland, both of which I already had. This year he brought me KL and was sure I hadn‘t heard of it. I had to tell him I just finished Book 2. He asked where I heard about it and said from my Litsy family. His response was “I hate those people”. 🤣 I am thrilled to have a physical copy.
2) Guilty pleasure ⬇️

Deblovestoread 2) books that were half price and with a b‘day gift card 3) Dr. Seuss fabric from a quilt shop visit today and lunch with my fellow August b‘day friend 4) Fantastic book choice from @TheBookHippie with a beautiful journal, bookmark and tea 5) Another fantastic book from @AmyG with a reading journal and sticker. I am so grateful for my Litsy friends. ❤️ (edited) 4mo
AmyG Book 3 of KL was my favorite. Enjoy! 4mo

There‘s a lot of talk these days about getting 3.5% of the population involved in a protest. But why? And how?
I‘m trying to learn more about how nonviolent resistant world and (why) 😉

I follow Lauren Grubaugh Thomas‘ Substack, A Soulful Revolution, and today‘s piece was hopeful and encouraging to me, as I feel somewhat at a loss over effective action in the face of current events. I‘ll link her piece below. She highlighted the tagged book and an upcoming series of online book discussions, if anyone‘s interested in joining in. I just put the book on hold at the library! Links in comments ⤵️

TheBookHippie I‘ve been preaching this for decades . Yes we have to protest. No that‘s not enough. ✊🏼 wonderful article. Hopefully more people wake up. 6mo

Spotify set me up with an "Angry Running List," which taught me that I still enjoy Rage Against the Machine as much or more than I did in my feisty 20s, but now I cry at the lyrics.

It also taught me that, despite my conviction to the contrary, I apparently don't hate ALL Foo Fighters songs.

BarbaraBB I used to love Rage too and still do whenever I hear them. Quite timely 🤦🏻‍♀️ 6mo
BarbaraBB Also Foo Fighters has been growing on me 💕 6mo
PuddleJumper Rage Against still hits that spot for me especially when I'm out walking. Foo Fighters are a bit hit and miss. I have a screamy walk playlist which is a lot of emo, punk, and rock lol 6mo
lil1inblue I love Rage far more at 45 than I did at 15. In fact, my Tom Morello crush didn't start until my 30s. 😂 6mo

I‘m delighted by how my Audible membership introduces me to great authors. I listened to my first book by this author and it was an excellent locked-room mystery! It exceeded my expectations as the story climaxed with several twists and turns. The surprising ending left me feeling sad yet appreciative of the deviation from a conventional conclusion.
