Becoming a Citizen Activist
Becoming a Citizen Activist: Stories, Strategies, and Advice for Changing Our World | Nick Licata
5 posts | 1 read | 23 to read
Recent waves of social activism like the Occupy movement and Black Lives Matter show that you can fight city hall--or any other powerful entity for that matter. Now comes the playbook for citizen activists wanting to improve the world around them from Nick Licata, admired Seattle city councilmember and one of the citys most effective leaders of political and social change since the 1960s. In this smart and powerful book, Licata explains how to get organized, congregate power, and master the tactics for change. He is insightful in comparing effective communication with methods that just dont work. Licatas observations on the intricacies of power will empower any activist who wants to make a difference in todays world.

Spotify set me up with an "Angry Running List," which taught me that I still enjoy Rage Against the Machine as much or more than I did in my feisty 20s, but now I cry at the lyrics.

It also taught me that, despite my conviction to the contrary, I apparently don't hate ALL Foo Fighters songs.

BarbaraBB I used to love Rage too and still do whenever I hear them. Quite timely 🤦🏻‍♀️ 6d
BarbaraBB Also Foo Fighters has been growing on me 💕 6d
PuddleJumper Rage Against still hits that spot for me especially when I'm out walking. Foo Fighters are a bit hit and miss. I have a screamy walk playlist which is a lot of emo, punk, and rock lol 6d
lil1inblue I love Rage far more at 45 than I did at 15. In fact, my Tom Morello crush didn't start until my 30s. 😂 5d

Chassie @lindseyosborne I downloaded them at www.womensmarch.com/100. It has 10 actions for the first 100 days in the administration. ✊🏼✊🏾✊🏿✊🏻✊🏽 8y
Bette Thanks for the info. I've been emailing. Do you think one has more weight than the other? I want to do whatever makes the most difference. Thanks. 8y
Chassie @Bette I think it all matters! I've been calling, e-mailing, and I sent the post cards today. I've heard various thoughts behind each method, and they all seem to have their own merits. (edited) 8y
Bette Thank you. Then I'll continue on, and I'm also downloading postcards and sharing them at work, so thanks for the posting. 👍❤️️🙂 8y
