ephemeralwaltz Bharati Mukherjee 😍 7y
MrBook @ValerieAndBooks No, no Lahiri for this list. She was born in London and moved to the US while a tot. She goes between the US and Italy now. 7y
ValerieAndBooks @MrBook ah ok, I thought maybe she could count because she has written a lot about the Indian experience (although not set in India itself, true). 7y

Time for a new #authorlist 😁! This is the first half of an introductory list of authors who have been born and/or raised and/or lived and/or died in India. Have you read any of these authors? #LitsyLovesLibraries #MrBooksLists

Pogue Is there a list like this for Andorra? 7y
Cathy12 I have read many of them! I love Indian literature as much add I love Indian food! 😋 7y
SqueakyChu I loved The Hungry Tide by Amitav (not Amitva) Ghosh! (edited) 7y

MrBook @Pogue 😂👏🏻🙌🏻! 7y
Pogue No I am serious. I am reading my way around the world and I can‘t find anything for Andorra. 7y
MrBook I do enjoy a good challenge. Why do I feel like I've read a book that partially takes place in Andorra? 🤔 7y
MrBook @Pogue ☝🏻 7y
Pogue I hope you have an idea! I have read every “A” county but Andorra. 7y

New #authorlist 😁! This one is #Korean authors who have been born and/or raised and/or died in one of the two Koreas (there are at least 10 North Koreans on this list). Any names you recognize? #LitsyLovesLibraries #MrBooksLists

ephemeralwaltz Oh dear!!! I only know Han Kang and I‘ve been meaning to read Bandi. I need to check all of these out. Thanks for always sharing your awesome lists!! 7y
SqueakyChu The only author I‘ve read is Han Kang I have a second Han Kang book here at home I need to read at some later date. 7y

The second half of my #Japanese authors #authorlist 😁! @shawnmooney and @SqueakyChu , I attempted to get a wide variety of authors represented on here as a decent introduction for new readers. Any authors stand out to anybody? #LitsyLovesLibraries #MrBooksLists

RohitSawant Terrific list! Kanae Minato & Edogawa Ranpo 🙌🏻 7y
Abailliekaras 😍😍😍 7y
swynn I just read my first Natsumi Soseki earlier this year and loved it. 7y

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Oddly enough, for normally reading about 0 Japanese literature, I‘ve read from an author on both of your lists this year already. That‘s actually very sad, but it‘s an accomplishment for me. 7y
Gezemice I am a newbie to Japanese authors... where should I start? 7y
SqueakyChu Here are some from your list I‘d recommend:
Yukio Mishima
Haruki Murakami
Ryu Murakami
Kenzaburō Oe
Natsumi Sōseki
Junichiro Tanazaki
Yasutaka Tsusui
Banana Yoshimoto
(edited) 7y
SqueakyChu You MUST add Akira Yoshimura! 7y
SqueakyChu I also liked Hiromi Kawakami
Hikaru Okuizumi
Yuko Tanaguchi
(edited) 7y
SqueakyChu Would you check if the authors I recommended that were not on your lists were actually born, lived, or died in Japan? I didn‘t look them up. Thx! 7y
SqueakyChu @Gezemice I started with Banana Yoshimoto and Haruki Murakami, but I think they cater more to an International readership. Then move on to some others. Of the more traditional authors, I began with Yasunari Kawabata and Kobo Abe. Then try some of the others in my recommended list. Read more books of the books of authors you do like. Many are very different. 7y
SqueakyChu @Riveted_Reader_Melissa which books of Japanese fiction did you read this year? 7y
MrBook @SqueakyChu Thank you for your insights 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙌🏻, I knew you would be able to help out 🤗! Okay, I think I can add 3 or 4 names to my list--these are going to be made into bookmarks by my library, so I have only so much room, lol. I'll take a look at the LT list first time I get a chance 😊👍🏻👍🏻🙌🏻. 7y
SqueakyChu @MrBook My pleasure! I‘m so glad others will now be reading the Japanese authors I‘ve so enjoyed. By the way, lilisin on that LibraryThing thread is an American living in Tokyo. Her book reviews are amazing!!! 7y
MrBook @SqueakyChu Fantastic 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻! Our new union with LT is a wonderful thing 👍🏻👍🏻. Mind if we exchange emails? I have an idea (this happens too often 😂☺️😇). Mine's jasonvigorito at gmail. (edited) 7y
SqueakyChu @MrBook I‘ve been hacked badly before so I don‘t publicly post my email. To private message me, do it on LibraryThing. You can join for free if you do it via cell phone and are a Litsy member, I believe. I‘m also SqueakyChu there. 7y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @SqueakyChu On this list I read Banana Yoshimoto‘s Kitchen and Moonlight Shadow. On the other 1/2 I read Deep River by Shusaku Endo 7y
SqueakyChu @Riveted_Reader_Melissa I bailed on Deep River. It started with three unrelated stories (which most likely converged later), but I don‘t like that style of writing. Maybe I should give that book another chance? 7y
Gezemice @SqueakyChu Thank you! Those two I have heard of, I will check them out! 7y
SqueakyChu @Gezemice Please let me know what you read and how you liked those authors/books! 7y
SqueakyChu @Gezemice Haruki Murakami has some great short stories. Banana Yoshimoto is best at novellas. However, those two have written many full length novels as well. (edited) 7y
Gezemice @SqueakyChu I have “Norwegian Wood” from Murakami on my list. I figure I wet my feet with something shorter 7y
SqueakyChu @Gezemice Norwegian Wood is a light read. It‘s a fine place to begin. Haruki Murakami is a very popular and prolific contemporary Japanese author. 7y

Another #authorlist done 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻! First half. As always with these sorts of lists, if the author was born and/or raised and/or died in Japan, they have the fantastic pleasure of appearing here 😆. I think we do have at least a couple expert Littens in #Japanese lit: @shawnmooney and @SqueakyChu . Did I get most of the biggies? #LitsyLovesLibraries #MrBooksLists

SqueakyChu Here are some from your list I‘d recommend:
Kobo Abe
Kazuo Ishiguro
Yasunari Kawabata
Natsuo Kirino
7y
SqueakyChu For those of you who get attached to contemporary Japanese fiction, I recommend lilisin‘s thread on LibraryThing: http://www.librarything.com/topic/214519 7y
Dragon My fave is Kazuo Ishiguro the tagged book is the first novel of his that I read 7y

The second half of my #AsianAuthor #authorlist 😁☺️! They include both fiction and non-fiction authors, adult and #YA, some best-sellers and forgotten notables. Variety, variety, variety! Any names you enjoy reading? #LitsyLovesLibraries #MrBooksLists

Lcsmcat Lisa See and Jhumpa Lahiri! 7y
Librariana @MrBook - quick question for you, sir ? And I do hope I'm wording this with all the respect you deserve - Have you considered putting all of your lists under one tag? I see that you already use "Litsyloveslibraries", but I was curious about something like... "MrBooksLists" or something of the sort? They are a fabulous resource and I would love for all of us to easily access them in the future. Just a thought, of course ??? 7y
MrBook @Librariana Sir? Sir is my father ?☺️?. I've done a lot of these lists and I did only recently start using "#booklist" based on another Litten's suggestion. Hmmm ?, it's a good question. I can indeed extend it to "#MrBookLists" to make it even clearer, great suggestion ?! It'll take some time with all the back-scrolling I'll have to do ??. Might as well get cracking on it now though, I told my supe I'd get her another 100 lists ?????. 7y
Librariana @MrBook - I had a very "Whoa, dude. Mr. Turtle is my father. Name's Crush!" moment (from Finding Nemo!) when you said 'Sir' was your father ? I saw that you were using #booklist, but I thought it could be narrowed down even further since others were already using the tag. I imagine it'll be quite a bit of work on your part to back-scroll and edit, but you know us librarians and categorization... specificity ? Thank you for taking my suggestion! 7y
azulaco Listmania! I like your lists. I can‘t believe you get to do them as part of your job! 7y
