The Little Stranger | Sarah Waters
post image

So, instead of reading Gingerbread like I was planning, this called to me from the depths of my kindle. And I‘m loooooving it!! Sarah Waters can really tell a story. I loved The Paying Guests and I have a feeling I‘m going on a backlist binge once this one is finished!

MidnightBookGirl I am constantly recommending her book 6y
Cathythoughts I loved this one ✨✨✨✨✨ 6y
JamieArc I recently read Fingersmith and it will be one of my most recommended books too, @MidnightBookGirl ! 6y
Owlizabeth @MidnightBookGirl @JamieArc I have that and Tipping the Velvet, plus I‘ve already read The Paying Guests (which I recommend to everyone already), so I‘m stoked for a #backlistbinge 6y

Pickpick

Too short! I was crushed to reach 78% according to my Kindle and have it be the end - the rest was a preview of the book I finished last night. Like her full length novels, this story has surprising depth and left me in tears. My #backlistbinge is over. Now, the waiting begins - book #4 comes out 2/13/18.

I loved some of her stories two decades or so ago; I'm feeling nostalgic and excited to read more of them all these years later…

Having loved his mystically zany memoir of the 2011 Fukushima tsunami, here I am starting one of the few of Furukawa's novels translated into English. And oh my god how's this for a historical backdrop for a novel about military dogs the Japanese leave behind when they retreat from these islands, and a story that apparently twists and turns in a sci-fi way?

DeborahSmall This looks great 8y
lynneamch The first I learned about this was in a book club selection, which I recommend 8y

Just started this on audio. You know how sometimes the narrator's voice just grabs you and won't let go, and you couldn't get distracted if you tried? That's what this is like so far.

Good Lord, there's a novel's worth of story in this opening paragraph alone! (And I am most definitely NOT complaining!)

Certainty: A Novel | Madeleine Thien

Thien's 'Do Not Say We Have Nothing' is the best novel I've ever read. This, her first, has already wowed me too!

I've only read her later novels and short stories. This sentence, in the opening pages of her first novel (1976), is so quintessentially Carol-Shieldsian that it made me all verklempt. ❤❤
