Perveen Mistry 3
Each one is better than the last. I appreciate learning the culture of Zoroastrians. There is so much I don't know.

I'm so tickled with this new-to-me series I found. The first female solicitor in Bombay solves mysteries while recuperating from a very abusive yet short marriage. Perveen is a Zoroastrian who needs to learn the law and culture of the Muslim, Hindu, and Sikh communities in order to help her clients.
This came recommended, and I‘m so glad! Fantastic cozy mystery set in 1920s Bombay, featuring a female lawyer/sleuth. It involves different cultures and religions found in the city at the time, and all that goes with it. Really well done! (And it got me a #bingo to close the year #bookspinbingo )

4.5 Stars • 3rd in the series • Perveen Mistry, a pioneering female lawyer in 1920s Bombay, investigates the will of the wealthy Solicitor family patriarch. Uncovering potential forgery and family secrets, she navigates cultural and legal challenges to resolve the inheritance dispute, all while facing personal and professional obstacles in a society dominated by British rule and traditional norms.
I enjoyed this third installment of the Perveen Mistry series, even if the ending was a little too tidy. I accidentally downloaded the next one from Libby, so I will at least start it there even though I have a hard copy.
It turns out I was a little hasty consolidating all my #serieslove2024 into one collage, so for various reasons I‘ve separated the mysteries from the rest again for now.
Apparently, my Rakuten Kobo Elipsa checks geolocation and without any info message, it declines access to Helsinki City Library from Riga, Latvia :/ Luckily, I found the way to connect my e-reader to VPN network in Finland and I was able to borrow the book as I was craving for more Indian stories besides so close to my heart “A Suitable Boy“ ❤️
TOP. Veramente un libro che merita un film. Particolare come lettura e storia, sicuramente molto romanzata ma un gran libro appassionante. Hanno poi fatto il secondo ma non ha nulla a che vedere con questo

This fit the prompt for a mystery set on a different continent. Set in Bombay, India during the 1920s, Perveen Mistry is the first and only female solicitor in the city. As a woman, she‘s allowed to practice but not plead in court. There‘s a lot going on in this historical mystery. I‘d have preferred less backstory about Perveen‘s early marriage, but others will appreciate it. A solid debut- I will read on in the series.
I‘m glad it‘s over! Which is sad to say of one I generally enjoyed. 933 pages was a bit much & would‘ve worked as two books. There is a lot in here. Adventure, danger, love, loss, laughs. Things I didn‘t like were the ego, much of the dialogue, philosophy without ever finding self, too many questionable decisions & unbelievably timed turns. First 2/3 enjoyable and I‘m glad I‘ve read it after occupying a thick chunk of shelf space for a few years.
