Game of Thrones | George R R Martin
post image

#ReadJanuary #bookseveryonehasreadbutyou This was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the prompt. I haven't read these or seen the show, despite the husband begging me to read them! I plan to get to them eventually....I know they will be hard for me though, because I have a tendency to get attached to characters.

SaraFair Me neither! I started the show, but it opened in a graveyard and I got a bad vibe, so I turned it off. 8y
bookwrm526 @SaraFair I made it about halfway through the first episode 8y

I own this book. I love Elizabeth Gilbert so much that I follow her on Facebook. And yet. And yet. I still have not read it. It is on my list for this year, so I will, but I think I am afraid of the same thing that happened to me with Cheryl Strayed. I love her and her work. But in Wild, which I did end up enjoying, she annoyed me a lot more than I thought she would. Will Elizabeth do the same? Stay tuned. #readjanuary #bookseveryonehasreadbutyou

HotCocoaReads I know others who were annoyed with this book--I loved it though! 8y
Laura317 I enjoyed the first half of the book. The second half, not so much. 8y
merelybookish I follow both these writers on Facebook and find their advice and perspective so helpful. But I haven't read EPL or Wild. And I don't really want to either, for the same reasons. 😉 8y

Marchpane I haven't read Wild (and not sure I want to) but I LOVED 8y
Krisjericho @Marchpane I am on the last part of Tiny Beautiful Things right now! It is gutting, in the best possible way. I love middle-aged Cheryl so much more than 20-ish Cheryl in Wild. I am glad I read Wild, though. Her growth from then to now is inspirational. 8y
Imagineannie EPL annoyed the living daylights out of me. I much prefer Strayed, especially Tiny, Beautiful Things which is balm for the heart. 8y

The Hunger Games Trilogy | Suzanne Collins

#ReadJanuary #BooksEveryoneHasReadButYou It's my moment of shame 😔I'm not a big fantasy reader 🙄I definitely feel like I've missed out on lots of series and good books. I'm hoping to try the Hunger Games Trilogy this year! What other can't miss Fantasy series would you knowledgeable Littens suggest??? #Yearofmagicalreadingchallenges

coastalreader The Shades of Magic series by V.E. Schwab. The third book comes out in February. 8y
LazyOwl Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson is awesome 8y
Foxyfictionista Try Blood Ties by Pamela Freeman. It's the first of a trilogy and it is unlike any fantasy I've read. I really loved it. Also, don't be ashamed about not having read any fantasy. Be proud that you're branching out and getting something new. That's difficult for a lot of people to do. You're like an adventurer traveling to a new land! 8y

TrishB Farseer Trilogy by Robin Hobb 💜 8y
Cinfhen Thanks for the encouragement and suggestions 😊I'm stacking them all @coastalreader @LazyOwl @Foxyfictionista @TrishB 8y
Ruri_kaichou No shame! Read what you like and try to branch out 😉 I love the Chronicles of Narnia and the Xanth novels are so fun. 8y
Cinfhen Thanks @Ruri_kaichou 💖I actually read the 8y
Cinfhen I will check out Xanth (edited) 8y
RanaElizabeth Try Patrick Rothfus, epic with great storytelling. 8y
RanaElizabeth Or Scott Lynch, buddy comedy with lots of cons. 8y
RanaElizabeth Daniel Polansky, gritty and urban. 8y
saresmoore I loathe George R.R. Martin. Just ugh. Don't care how good his books supposedly are. I think your omission of all of these series is probably a good choice. BUT, I'm quite intrigued by all the wonderful suggestions in the comments above! The Name of the Wind is on my TBR for 2017. 8y
Melkyl I love the Game of Thrones series, but I know others who don't. I didn't care for The Hunger Games. How about The Lord of the Rings? I really enjoyed it too. 8y
ValerieAndBooks I've not read any of the above either! Or LOTR. 8y
Cinfhen @ValerieAndBooks & @saresmoore I'm glad to know I'm in such esteemed company and I agree, I've gotten awesome suggestions from @RanaElizabeth & @Melwilk 🙌🏻My TBR is completely out of control and I couldn't be more pleased 😁 8y
Dragon I liked 8y
Hooked_on_books The Hunger Games is a great story and a wonderful protagonist. Skip the Twilight books unless you're a fan of misogyny. 8y
SincerelyWinona My only tip is if you're not a typical fantasy reader you may need to just power through the first Hunger Games book. It starts a little slow and I actually gave up on it when I got it as an ARC originally! The second book's my favorite. 8y
