Algerian Chronicles | Albert Camus

Pickpick

I started reading on Nov 5. Each letter or essay had to be analyzed carefully before moving to the next. As an Algerian born Frenchman, he fought for equality in his homeland, he fought for humanity, but was forced into exile. He stated how the indigenous Algerians fought for France during WW II so they should not be abandoned. He stood up for the minute communities and their differences, and how the new government should reflect the differences.

Kelly_the_Bookish_Sidekick This sounds interesting. I had to delay a couple of months because I was falling so far behind thanks to work and life obligations. I'll have to see if this is available to me through the library. I'm gong to have to split a few months in half next year to make up for what I've missed! 🤣 2w

In The Stranger, Meursault shoots and kills a nameless “Arab.” Here, the Arab‘s brother describes his and his mother‘s poor attempt at an investigation, his learning about Meursault‘s book describing the murder, and his own life in the absence of his brother, the “Arab.” I love the concept. And truthfully, this book follows Camus‘s same devil-may-care depiction of the main character. But I didn‘t care for The Stranger, and I care for this book ⬇️

Texreader even less. This book is meandering, almost meaningless, and self-pitying. Even though it is short, it feels too long. The author may have been successful in his aim to match Camus‘ style, perhaps worthy of study while studying The Stranger. But it just isn‘t my kind of book. #Algeria #foodandlit 1mo

BarbaraBB I read this one too but it didn‘t work as good for me as The Stranger itself. 2mo

#FoodandLit This is a book of philosophy and confessions. I don‘t think I was in the right headspace to read about a white, narcissistic, man this week. The writing style felt its 1950‘s. The character is contradictory and I‘ve had enough of that lately but Camus did have several quotes that made me stop and think.
I made Dutch Baby Pancakes and they were delicious. I‘d like to play around with some other flavors and order some stroop syrup 😋

Texreader The pancake—Yum!! The Camus book: I don‘t think I could have dealt with that either!! 11mo
mhillis I wrote my senior seminar paper on The Fall. Pancakes look amazing!! 11mo

A Happy Death | Albert Camus

Currently reading the tagged book for my Classic of the Month (CotM) and wanted to update myself on my personal reading goal for the year 📚 A Happy Death is Camus‘ first novel and has the most author insert of all his novels. One of my favorites of all time is L‘Etranger and I‘m determined to read all his novels.
