My plans for #hyggehourreadathon
Thanksgiving to #foodandlit #Netherlands in January, I am thoroughly addicted to Stroopwsfels with coffee. This one is honey & vanilla bourbon. It‘s a night for candles-those pictured are courtesy of @dabbe As always,my cozy reading chair with pillows & blankets. Not pictured are Em & Poe, who usually join me. Contentment!

Great reading month for January! I finished 19 books total & read almost all I set out to. I think weekly plane rides & trying to avoid media upped my reading time. Finished all 3 #Roll100 books, 3 from my #AuldLangSpine list from @JacqMac + #AuthorAMonth #SundayBuddyRead #ChildrensClassicRead2025 #NancyDrewBR #BobWhiteBuddies #FoodandLit #ChloeGongReadalong #ThematicCozies #FictionalTraveler #Naturalitsy #MidWinterSolace #JaneAustenThenAndNow ⬇️

DebinHawaii … & #SeriesLove2025 & also had some library books sneak their way in. I enjoyed most everything I read (although I got a little heavy with Nazis/Fascists books for a month of political horror that was depressing but some lighter books pulled me out). Top 3 Favorites were Bad Cree, Lula Dean‘s Little Library of Banned Books & The Night Guest. (edited) 13h

The Fall | Albert Camus

Mehso-so

#FoodandLit This is a book of philosophy and confessions. I don‘t think I was in the right headspace to read about a white, narcissistic, man this week. The writing style felt its 1950‘s. The character is contradictory and I‘ve had enough of that lately but Camus did have several quotes that made me stop and think.
I made Dutch Baby Pancakes and they were delicious. I‘d like to play around with some other flavors and order some stroop syrup 😋

Texreader The pancake—Yum!! The Camus book: I don‘t think I could have dealt with that either!! 1d
mhillis I wrote my senior seminar paper on The Fall. Pancakes look amazing!! 1d

Cortg @mhillis Woah! I think I got the synapsis/gist. Can‘t imagine diving that deep into it! You‘re amazing 🤩 14h

Yes!!!! There is a restaurant that makes Nepali cuisine close by to me.

I have been fascinated by Nepal since I was in college in the 90s. I had a huge crush on someone who was rumored to be a prince. Then, shortly after graduation, the massacre occurred. I was floored. I never saw his name in any of the news reports. I also read Massacre at the Palace. I plan to continue reading about the massacre.

Texreader What a find! I found a place that does take-out Nepalese momos way the other side of San Antonio. But I‘ll trek there at some point this month! And what a story about the possible prince! (edited) 1d

Pickpick

#JumpStart2025 #Read2025

I did better with the lit part of #FoodAndLit #Netherlands as I ran out of time to cook anything. The imported food section of my grocery store did have this peppermint licorice candy which I‘ll review below. Making this post while taking an errand break of this #SaturdayChatterday for coffee, breakfast & some #LitsyLove correspondence.

About the book: I‘ve long been an admirer of Audrey Hepburn & that increased with ⬇️

DebinHawaii …this well-told story of her childhood in the Netherlands & what her family went through during WWII. It was a unique perspective & engrossing, explaining a lot about how that horrible experience shaped Audrey. The author did a lot of research & interviews & it made for a compelling read. This is the third book I read in January that dealt with Nazis & other fascists & I think I need to hold off on the subject the next month or two! 😵‍💫⬇️ (edited) 1d
DebinHawaii It‘s just too close to home right now! 😳Pairing it with food is a little difficult since the lack of food for Audrey & her family in 1945 led to malnutrition & life-long issues for the actress. The licorice ice I bought is called schoolkrijt or krijtjes & wasn‘t invented until the 1960s. I‘m not a big licorice fan but the peppermint softens the taste. Overall, not bad. I bought cheese too & will try to share it later on. (edited) 1d
