I gave The Paper Palace 4 stars. The writing was strong, and the story—though rooted in everyday life—was compelling. I didn‘t like the main character; her choices felt selfish, and her betrayal of her family was hard to stomach. A painful past doesn‘t excuse hurting others. Still, the book kept me reading, and I found it moving in its own way.

The first in a series set on Cape Cod, this one had a lot going on…and not all in a good way. Lots of nonessential info that could not even be described as red herrings. I‘d say more, but it may be considered spoilerish. Let‘s just say it‘s confusing. #Xander #CatsOfLitsy

I didn‘t expect to enjoy this nonfiction YA book. It turned out to be quite interesting! (I listened to the audiobook) Not only does the author go into detail about the history of the ship, but he delves into the history of those who captained it, the pirates who stole it, and many other side stories that related to the Whydah. I love fiction about pirates, so I figured I would give this particular nonfiction title a try, and I am glad I did.
