I'm a sucker for kids' books from the 50s and 60s, but this one was a dud. I don't mind a young character being kind of not-smart/ignorant so that the reader can learn alongside of them, but the girl in this book was so stupid that I worried for her overall survival into adulthood. I think it was supposed to be funny? But it was just annoying lol

Sarah Lotz has scared me off of planes and cruise ships and now we can add cave exploring and Mt Everest climbing. Simon, eager to get some hits for his fledgling adrenaline website, decides to go explore a forbidden cave with an unstable older guide. The guide does not come back. Simon does, with more than he bargained for. The first part of the book in these caves had my windpipe choking me while reading what was going on. It was harrowing. 👇🏼

Reggie Desperate for more clicks his partner sends him to climb Mt. Everest. There are so many layers to not only the settings but the different characters in here, and I think Sarah did a great job integrating them all into a solid, good story. There‘s a video on YouTube where a guide takes her cave exploring to do research for this book and oof…I could not do it. Pick! 8mo

Suet624 Ooohhhh, sounds interesting! 8mo
Reggie @BkClubCare @sarahbarnes those first 50 pages were the summit of this book. It was crazy. 8mo
Reggie @vivastory I‘m gonna have to order that one. Just so I can be a Lotz completist. My libraries don‘t have it. 8mo
Reggie @Suet624 there is a lot about the 3rd who always walks with you in here. But I thought it was great. And the sections about MtEverest and the trials and tribulations were great. 8mo

A fabulous and gripping account of one of the most prominent women cave divers. Her experience details overcoming adversity, pursuing excellence, achieving potential, and relates to every woman living in a world that does not cater to our progress. I find it incredibly refreshing and relatable to read writings of ♀️pioneers as I strive to live my most authentic and brave life. #adventure #brave #lady

Utterly fascinating look at the spaces, natural & man-made, beneath our feet & the enduring connection humanity has to them. Yes there are chapters on the NYC subway & the catacombs beneath Paris but there are also chapters on intraterrestrials & the astrobiologists studying them for clues about possible life on other planets, burrowers in Cappadocia & explorers pushing farther and farther into the depths. I honestly couldn‘t put it down.

#AugustRush #20in4

Whew! Just finished my #TitlesAndTunes #August pick for #TheWorldIsMyOyster & really enjoyed in—although it certainly made my claustrophobia spike with the author‘s descriptions of the dangerous places she explored as a cave diver. I alternated between the e-book & audiobook & especially enjoyed hearing the author reading her own words. There were a couple of draggy parts but overall this was an interesting & engaging read.👍👍

Cinfhen Fantastic!! I have the audio so glad to hear it‘s a pick 🩵 1y
BarbaraBB Cave diving… I am so fascinated by it because it seems one of the most scary things to do! 1y

OK, I finally have my #TitlesAndTunes book & song pick for August‘s #TheWorldIsMyOyster prompt. Oyster made me think of oceans & this book that has been in my Kindle TBR stack & while I have used it a bazillion times for challenge prompts, I have never actually read it.

Since it‘s a memoir by a woman who is a deep sea cave diver, Rolling in the Deep by Adele seems like a fitting song choice. 🦪🤿🌊

DebinHawaii Not gonna lie—I did consider choosing Don‘t Fear the Reaper by Blue Oyster Cult in case the playlist needed MORE cowbell! 😉😆 (edited) 1y
Cinfhen Hahaha!! Of course I‘m adding both songs because duh!! I‘m thrilled with your choices and I‘m stacking the book!!! It‘s been on my #ReadersRadar for too long!!! 1y
Soubhiville I loved this book! And I love both these song choices too. 🩵🤍 1y
Deblovestoread Great song choices and stacking the book! 🎶📚 1y
