Pickpick

I had a long drive ahead of me and no book queued up so I just picked the first one that came up. It wasn‘t bad! It‘s a lot of information and at times it feels a little condescending. And 1 chapter after you think it‘s gone on too long, it ends. 😀

Not sure I agree completely with the narrator‘s sentiments (I was, after all, in the military), but I believe there is some truth here and that blind allegiance is a scary thing. Might be why I don‘t subscribe to any particular political party. Anyhow, I do love the idea of wandering alone beneath a cloth tent painted with dreams. I‘ve been a bit of a dreamer...a wanderer...a loner, at times. 💫

Bostonmomx2 That‘s a pretty harsh passage to despise people who join a society. I get being your own person but also finding like minded people isn‘t always bad. Unless it‘s the Klan. That‘s bad. 😊 6y
Bostonmomx2 And thank you for your service 🇺🇸 6y
wanderinglynn I too disagree with the author. I don‘t find that groups are inherently bad. What I do find repugnant are those groups which demand strict adherence to standards, particularly moral standards, with no room for debate, disagreement, or individual freedom. And joining a group certainly doesn‘t make one weak. There‘s a basic human need to be a member of a society/group. 6y

YouReadMyEyes @Bostonmomx2 Agreed 👌🏼 6y
YouReadMyEyes @wanderinglynn Exactly, well said. 6y
Varske Agree @Bostonmomx2 @YouReadMyEyes No man is a island, and we all rely on our groups, tribes and nations for support. All this individualism ignores the need for some consensus to live together peacefully. It‘s just not always easy to find the consensus. Margaret Thatcher said there was no such thing as society, only families. But she was wrong about that as well. (edited) 6y
AnastasiaPoirier Sounds like an interesting book. I bet the author's an INTJ or knows one intimately. Thanks for putting this one on my radar. 6y
YouReadMyEyes @AnastasiaPoirier You‘re welcome. It‘s very unique. Dystopian Fiction, written (according to the author) to help people know and see what it is like to love a person with Down‘s Syndrome. 6y

It‘s my first #Indiespensable box from Powell‘s books! Wow - not only do they include a #signedfirstedition and an interview with the author, they also include a bonus book and some notebooks. ❤️🤩❤️

I‘ve opted to do this book club for the time being (I cancelled my BOTM membership). I really like the author interviews and the extras that #Powells includes.
