Why have I decided to read 4 books while also trying to get ready for Christmas and attempt crocheting for the first time? I really don‘t know BUT I‘m having so much fun juggling it all!! 🤹🏻♀️
Any fellow crocheters out there? Any good tips for a newbie like me? 😺
bullbunny What would you like to know? I taught myself! 6y
julesG My first crochet project was a hat. Turned out too big because I confused UK and US crochet terms. 😵 Start with something small where size doesn't really matter, pott holders or a scarf. 6y
BookNerd9906 Me too, literally all those things! I‘m learning by watching YouTube videos! Scarves/neck warmers are great to start. I‘ve just moved on to hats. (edited) 6y

Kaye I taught myself when I was around 10-12. I didn‘t know anyone close who could teach me so I checked out a library book and figured it out myself. I agree with the others. YouTube videos are great. Start with easy projects, even maybe some afghan squares in each of the beginning stitches. Try this website http://www.warmupamerica.org/patterns.html All the libraries in our area do this in the winter to make afghans for shelters. 6y
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego Decorating has drastically cut into my reading time. But it's so much fun, and I go way overboard... Good luck with the crocheting! 6y
Kaye 👆🏼 Under WUA featured and basic ( in red, about halfway down the page ), click on crochet patterns. Those give you the basics for the easier patterns. (edited) 6y
CatLass007 Congratulations on learning to crochet! I started with afghans and did nothing but for ages. But I agree with the others, start with something small like a scarf or squares with different stitches. 6y
introvertedbooks I love crocheting so if you need any help feel free to ask!!! 6y
ravenlee I‘m actually crocheting while reading this! Happy to answer any questions - and I second/third/whatever all the advice above. 6y
brittanyreads @bullbunny Favorite tools? Yarn? And best places to find patterns? :) 6y
brittanyreads Thanks! @julesG I‘ve already stumbled upon US and UK patterns and found myself confused. At least I know now they aren‘t the same! Lol 6y
brittanyreads @BookNerd9906 I‘m waiting on my materials to arrive so I‘ve been watching a bunch of YouTube in anticipation! Loving Sewrella and Bella Coco. What are your favorites?? 6y
brittanyreads @Kaye thank you so much!! I‘ll check that website out! I‘ve been thinking of starting with a baby blanket for my son. he won‘t mind if it‘s not perfect haha 6y
brittanyreads @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I‘ve toned it down this year a bit but there‘s still a lot! Getting a tree and baking Christmas cookies this weekend!! Thank you! Have fun! 6y
brittanyreads @CatLass007 Thanks! I hope I‘m halfway decent at it lol! 6y
brittanyreads @introvertedbooks Thank you so much! What‘s your favorite project to create? 6y
brittanyreads @ravenlee Thanks!! :) 6y
ravenlee Knitpicks.com is a good resource for yarn and tools, and some great books and tutorials. 6y
julesG Www.ravelry.com has patterns, forums/groups, yarn ideas, tool ideas, etc. But it can be quite overwhelming at first. Should you get an account there, one day, I'm JulesG over there, too. Www.knittingdaily.com has a crochet page, too. As for tools and wool, I'll let the US Littens answer that question. My only piece of advice is: especially as a beginner, do NOT go cheap on tools and material. You'll only be disappointed. 6y
julesG Choose a simple project to begin. Get a good medium sized hook and size matching yarn for your first project. You want to have fun, not be frustrated by the blunt hook or the splitting yarn. 6y
bullbunny @BrittanyReads I just YouTube or google patterns. YouTube has a variety of things, and people show you how to do the stitch. I love hooks with bamboo handles. Though the rubber grip kind are good too. Got a multi-pack on Amazon. My yarn I get mostly at joann's and Michael's. Sometimes walmart. 6y
brittanyreads @ravenlee thank you! I‘m so excited to begin! 6y
brittanyreads @julesG thank you so much for your advice! 6y
brittanyreads @bullbunny Thank you! I ordered some bernat blanket yarn and crochet hooks from amazon last week to get started and they lost my package 🤦🏼♀️ I‘m so excited to start I may just head over to Michaels today to grab a few things to hold me over. 6y
bullbunny @BrittanyReads wow how could they lose a package? Practice makes it great! Start with the less expensive kind, to practice with 6y
brittanyreads @bullbunny no idea! 😡 went to Michaels and picked up some inexpensive hooks and yarn until my other stuff gets here!! 6y
