Star Wars Darth Vader | Kieron Gillen
post image

In order to avoid overlap with books that I posted for my #top23of23 list I am going to be focusing solely on graphic novels & manga that I read this year for #12booksof2023 These will not nec be posted in order of the month that I read them, but I will try to make mention in my post of when in the yr I read them. As I have mentioned previously, graphic lit helped me stay connected to storytelling at a time when work was very challenging (cont)

vivastory After the release of Star Wars episode 7 in 2015 it became a Xmas tradition to go see the latest installment for several years running. I was thinking about this on Xmas Eve when I stumbled upon Gillen's 4 volume run on Darth Vader. Set immediately after the events of episode 4, this is Vader as he should be; unapologetically evil. Accompanied by 2 weaponized droids (they are sorta like the anti-C3po & R2d2) Vader works on getting back into 3mo
vivastory good standing with the Emperor. I binge read this on Xmas Eve as I prepared my Holiday meal & it perfectly scratched my itch for Star Wars at the holidays. Great stuff!

Off to Dallas to see Baylor Neurology again…
Hi friends! It‘s been a while! Life has been busy and stressful. School has been insane and I‘ve changed jobs (gone back to my old company in a new position). Hopefully, things are settling down a bit and I can check in more often. Hope you‘re all doing well!! 💚

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Are you ok?? 🩷 6mo
NovelGirl82 @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Hey! Yes, I‘m good. That‘s where my migraine specialist is. We changed my preventative, so fingers crossed this one works better! The last one was helping until I got Covid again in March. 6mo

Since I can‘t find Volume 1 in the database, I‘ll just review Vol I & II together. These start right after Darth Vader‘s big reveal to Luke at the end of The Empire Strikes Back & leads Vader to start asking some questions, like what happened to Padme & who hid Luke from him… which leads him through a series of events to discover what he doesn‘t want to remember or face. ⤵️

Riveted_Reader_Melissa ↪️ He encounters Padmé‘s handmaidens and friends who would also like the answers to these question. And the more Vader pushes for answers, the more displeased his master becomes. 12mo

Mehso-so

140/150 While the artwork was outstanding, the story was pretty meh. Taking place between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, it's pretty much filler. Vader crashes on a planet while seeking Luke. Luke crashes on the same planet. Leia arrives with rebel forces to kill Vader. Vader kicks everyone's ass, but no confrontation between father and son. 3 ⭐⭐⭐
2nd book finished for #NovelNovember @Andrew65
