A man's body clad only in underwear is found in a cargo of rhubarb on a goods train running from Leeds to London. Scotland Yard asks Kate Shackleton to put her local knowledge to use as they suspect the deceased was involved in a Soviet plot to cause unrest in the mining industry.
Although Kate and her helpers are all in good form I could've done without the political intrigue aspects. I liked the new character PH and hope we see more of him.
Kate Shackleton and other members of her local photographic society go on a trip to Haworth to witness the handing over of Haworth Parsonage to the nation as the Brontë Museum. Seven went but only six came back because one had been murdered.
There were times when it reminded me a bit too strongly of Cold Comfort Farm, but it was still a good mystery.

This book is a selection of short stories that take place in between the numbered books in the series. Daisy and Hazel are my favorite mg detectives and I enjoyed these mini mysteries as well as their tips on how to be a detective.
Only @dabbe and I get to complain about the heat !Or Death Valley people or other Phoenicians! Note 100 at 11 pm. This is WTF heat
Following a murder in Swindon Railway Works which is particularly gruesome the detective's have a difficult case. With at least five credible suspects the investigation is lengthy and complex. To make matters worse an acting superintendent causes problems while another is taken by force in Kent. The Swindon case was solved but lacked some credibility and once Colbeck reached Kent the issues there were dealt with. Will Christmas be a happy one?
I was taken to see a circus when I was a small boy and didn't enjoy it. Because of that experience I was not overly keen on reading this, the 14th book in the Railway Detective Series. Settling in to the investigations, two in Northumberland and one in London, there wasn't much progress and a lot of time was spent travelling without many thrills. In the latter stages the story came alive resulting in another very enjoyable and fulfilling mystery.
