Thanks to these Litsy folks for today‘s prompt:

TODAY‘S PROMPT: HAMMOCK

The writing and story line made me want to jump into the pages and to be at the cottage so I could be part of the love and warmth the characters had for each other, the cozy feel of the small town, and the love Adie Lou had for THE SUMMER COTTAGE.

Another year passes in Thrush Green. The big changes I was expecting didn't happen but there were some surprises with old cast members returning and new cast members being added.

Sparklemn I read one in the series years ago. I should try another. 1mo
rwmg @Sparklemn They are very soothing. I think they're best read in order as we follow a group of people more or less year by year for each volume. 1mo
Sparklemn @rwmg I think I read one mid-series. I‘ll start at the beginning. Thanks for the tip! 1mo

Mummy-Daughter Book Club time with delicious waffles!

Predictable but still an enjoyable read. There were a few things that were hard to believe (Cecily's secret not naturally coming out for 60+ years, for one) but I really liked the characters and diving into 3 generations (sorry, I don't think Caden counts!)

Here‘s my review.

This book counts for:

☑️ 2 readathons - #wintergames, #bookspinbingo

☑️ 6 hours of reading (The audiobook is 6 hours.)

☑️ Holiday or winter read (It mentions a ski trip and it mentions the family celebrating Christmas but it‘s not a Christmas story. The book cover kinda has Christmas or Winter vibes too.)

This was devastatingly sad 😭!! If something bad could happen to this kid it did! And the kid was the author himself! Just heartbreaking, but it did have a sweetness to the ending as well. It‘s a beautiful holiday story but it‘s ROUGH to get through. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

One sign of a great writer is that they can violate all the so-called rules of good writing with impunity. This is the second Anita Brookner novel I've read now, and I'm hard-pressed to think of another writer who does so much telling (about her characters' personalities and thought processes) in relation to showing, but it's so nuanced and well-observed that I immediately feel like I know and sympathize with these lonely introverts.

Suet624 Another book I apparently need to read. 2mo

This is a hard book to read. Unlikeable characters, dealing with life and each other. Anita Brookner is such a good writer of characters, I felt like a fly on the wall, observing their lives closely, feeling their solitude and aging. Thanks for the recommendation Sarah 🤍
