Doom Patrol: Weight of the Worlds | Gerard Way, Mikey Way
post image

Book 2 of #2024Halfway is Doom Patrol. My introduction to the wild & thought provoking world of DP was via Gerard Way's terrific 3 vol. run. The exact same month I also read Grant Morrison's 6 vol. run. Although I found Morrison to be a bit too cerebral & experimental at times, I appreciated him pushing the boundaries of the form. IMO Way hit all of the right notes in his volumes & really illuminated what makes Doom Patrol so great.

vivastory BONUS: Hailey Piper's Benny Rose Cannibal King is one that I have vey recently read & posted about. At 160 pages, it's just a bit above what I would consider novella length but it is def one that you can read in a sitting or two. For those who like seasonal horror, I would recommend this as it takes place on Halloween. 10mo

23/150 There's always one thing you can be sure of with a Grant Morrison comic, it's going to be weird and will probably mess with your mind. He's like the PKD of comics, his stories deal with what is reality, what is imagination, and what makes us human. It can be a bit of a mindf**k at times, but usually work it. A bonus, the artwork by Frank Quietly is exquisite, so detailed and elaborate, you have to go back and look ⬇️⬇️⬇️

RamsFan1963 to see all the little details and familiar background characters you missed on the first read through. 3 ⭐⭐⭐💫 13mo

Doom Patrol Book One | Grant Morrison
post image

After finishing the third volume of Gerard Way's take on Doom Patrol, I was hungry for more. So, I checked out Grant Morrison Book 1. It did not disappoint & I am a confirmed fan. Including a group of villains who model themselves after the Dada movement & incorporating art & poetry into different storylines (Magritte's The Human Condition seemed to be the basis for a painting that would consume reality); this is definitely one of the more (CONT)

vivastory imaginative graphic novels that I have ever read. I see that my downtown library has the next 2 books. Will definitely be checking them out this week! 1y
DaveGreen7777 I loved Morrison‘s Doom Patrol run! Volume 2 is even better, that‘s where they introduce the Brotherhood of Dada! 1y
vivastory @DaveGreen7777 Yes! Loved Brotherhood of Dada 👏 I read Book 1 which contains the first 2 volumes (volume 2 is WILD 😱) 1y
TieDyeDude I loved the recently concluded TV show, but I never read the comics. Sounds like I'll need to fix that 😁 1y
vivastory @TieDyeDude I've never watched the show, but I heard great things. I will def be checking it out soon though! 1y

Colorful, weird, wild, weirdly wild in all the right ways. I never read the original but didn't feel lost despite how out there this story is. I read a lot of graphic novels & manga this week & this is easily one of my favorites. LOVED!

Zombie episode of Doom Patrol. I think I have a crush on Cliff. I‘m also trying to get in some readathon hours, but it‘s harder on the weekend with everyone interrupting me. Maybe once they are asleep. This is why I‘m always tired. lol

I'm a fan of earlier tales of Doom Patrol, but I also really enjoyed this revamp by Gerard Way. It has all the fun weirdness you expect from this zany team. The artwork and coloring was excellent too.

This new take on the DOOM PATROL, by the creator of THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY, makes a lot of sense, when you consider his original creation was a variation on the same themes (further down the rabbit hole, both titles owe their existence to the X-MEN). He admirably captains the ship, but I‘ll always prefer the ‘90s run of this book.
