Those who do not learn from history, are bound to repeat it!!

Thanks to @PathfinderNicole and @majkia among others for suggestion.

Mollyanna This is a great one! I have Shrines of Gaiety currently checked out from the library, so that will probably be my choice. 1w
majkia I've got Bright Young Dead by Jessica Fellowes I'll try to get to. 1w
Amiable And unfortunately too often those of us who do know history still have to repeat it because of the uneducated. 😖 1w

Decent read. It's good as a broad introduction to the history of the Normans. The book covers several different historical events, such as William the Conqueror, the Norman conquest of Sicily, and the 1st Crusade. However, I feel that the author tries to cover too much material in too short of a book. As a result, several events aren't covered in as much detail as they could've been.

Pretty good superficial view of German history since Roman times. Showed why Hitler seemed to be the answer in the early '30s. Don't look for a lot of details here, but OK overview. Took me longer to read than I thought, as usual.

4/5
Very interesting read about the author's quest to find out what happened to her Jewish family in Poland during WW2. During her travels there with her old cousin Sam, they discover that one member survived, and try to find her.
Key themes: history, personal trauma, frustration, hope, deception, war crimes, bureaucracy, national myths, etc.
This book highlights the importance of knowing history, all of it. Not to hide the dark parts of it.

Not a lot of reading this week but since I‘m resolved to not be a Litsy stranger again … BEHOLD my triumph over a skirting board! 🤣 This wretched thing was glued, nailed, painted and carpeted in. It took two days, a plant lever, half my tool box and the invention of a number of new expletives to get it loose but now the cabinet that‘s going there will fit flush to the wall (after I deal with the TV antenna) 🥳🥳🥳🥳

dabbe 🤩🤩🤩 8mo
CarolynM Congratulations, that‘s a major achievement 🎉 Always glad to see you here😘 8mo
GlassAsDiamonds @CarolynM honestly - a pox on every social media renovator who just pops these things off like a jar lid. LIES I TELL YOU, *LIES*… 8mo
