Europe: A History | Norman Davies

It‘s late, but not too late for a discussion. We just read multiple variants of defining the “West” from the “East.” Many are shaped by the times themselves and can seem abnormally outdated. In fact, the whole idea of West and East seems outdated, but we keep defining it. It‘s currently 2025. How do you define West and East? Where do you draw that line when you hear these terms? #europe #normandavies #west #east #history #worldhistory #politics

BooksandCoffee4Me These are so meaningful. Are you writing these? Your students? Oh how I miss being in the classroom and writing with my kids. (edited) 1w
dabbe @BooksandCoffee4Me TY! I'm writing them all by myself--the good, bad, and the ugly! 🤣 I decided I'd try to write a haiku a day in honor of April being poetry month and to participate in @wanderinglynn's #aprilpoetrychallenge. I am thoroughly enjoying it! 💚💚💚 1w

Semi-lazy #readingresolutions catch-up post. #East #West

I read a ton of books by Jean Fritz in 5th and 6th grade. I was homeschooled from 5th grade through the end of high school, and my mom used the local public library a lot, to supplement traditional textbooks/curriculum. That‘s how I found Jean Fritz, who was possibly also my first foray into historical fiction.

ScientistSam Yay! I loved Jean Fritz! 7y

When you have a book with both #east and #west in the title, the Litsy post almost writes itself 😄

Some interesting books I‘ve read set in the #east / far #east

#readingresolutions @Jess7

BiblioLitten I have only read The Vegetarian. The others look interesting! Which on would you suggest? 7y
Nute As soon as I saw the cover for The Dog Who Dared to Dream, I thought 'Oh that cover reminds me of the cover for The Hen Who Dreamed She Could Fly.' I loved that little book and did not know that the author had written another book. I'll be looking for it this weekend. 7y
erzascarletbookgasm @BiblioLitten I loved Sky Burial 💔 and The Makioka Sisters, a masterpiece! I also liked The Dog.. 7y
BiblioLitten All of them then! 😁 7y

The 'east' books on my shelves tend to be cookbooks from South-East Asia and the Middle East. Here's a bunch that I own with east in the title. 🥄📚😋 #cookbooks

A Rumor of War | Philip Caputo

Caputo's account of his Vietnam experience is, along with Michael Herr's Dispatches, one of the most powerful and horrifying accounts of war I have ever read.

In the words of my 12th grade social studies teacher: "If you remember only one thing from this class, remember this: war is hell."

#ReadingResolutions @jess7 #nonfiction #history #Vietnam #war #East

Ruthiella Every book I read about war whether from Ancient Rome to the Gulf War has that message for me. I am most concerned with the price civilians pay in these conflicts. 😢 It makes me wonder why anyone thinks this is a justifiable way to resolve conflict . 7y
