JackOBotts

Seeking book recommendations for my 10 y.o. son. He‘s in 4th grade and dipping toes into horror…he‘s been allowed to watch some scary movies (The Omen, The Conjuring, The Shining, It (1990 miniseries), Signs, The Sixth Sense).

He‘s wanted to read Stephen King, so for his birthday he got The Eyes of the Dragon & The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. He‘s devouring these books…

Any recommendations for where to steer him next? Thanks, Litsy! 💜🩷

JackOBotts No nightmares from the reads/movies. He‘s also reading some of my Fear Street books from childhood, but not as fast as the King novels. I will add that we‘re trying to avoid excessive language, sex, gore in the books at the moment (good luck with King!), but he also understands the balance. #raisingreaders 🥰 (edited) 3w
Lauredhel Is he too old for Goosebumps? I feel like ten isn't quite too old yet? 3w
Lauredhel More YA but a mix: Anna Dressed in Blood, Wilder Girls,Miss Peregrine series, Shirley Jackson, Dread Nation, Hold Me Closer Necromancer series (humour /horror), Through the Woods, Kaaron Warren, Holly Black, Mira Grant, some T Kingfisher, Monstrumologist, Claire Legrand, NK Jemisin, None Shall Sleep 3w

thegirlwiththelibrarybag I‘ve not read them myself but I do get asked for the Five Nights At Freddy‘s books reasonably often at the library (we shelve them in teen) 3w
PathfinderNicole I have a 7th grade horror fan myself and he LOVES the Five Night‘s at Freddy‘s books! There are full length novels and oodles of short story collections. There are also a couple based off the kids horror game Hello Neighbor. Try Mary Downing Hahn or Betty Wright for older kid friendly horror too 3w
Billypar I read this as an adult a few years ago, but it's one I wished I read as a kid because it's so, so creepy and original. Not at all like adult horror if he's reading King, but I don't think it feels too young either. 3w
JackOBotts @Lauredhel @thegirlwiththelibrarybag @PathfinderNicole @Billypar ~ thank you for all these recs! 🙌🏼 Time for me to do some reading - I mean, research -of my own! Gotta catch up with his King titles first…or simultaneously! 📚📚 3w

How can one not love the Peanuts-a collection of wisdom from pint sized humans and a doghouse flying beagle. So I‘m adding them all (at some point) to my collection. My problem is space. I need #creative #feedback on packing bookshelves and keeping them neat. BTW the only rooms without bookshelves are the bathrooms.

Nute I have the same concern. Although, I want to be known as a purchaser of many books and a collector of particular books, I no longer have the room to store the addition of any more books. I double stack my bookshelves. I stack on top of the bookshelves. I stack on the floor in front of the bookshelves. I have books in places where other things should be!🥴 I haven‘t mastered any willingness to part with any of my books which I think👇🏽 4y
Nute might be the only real answer to this dilemma. Pass on books that I have already read. Get rid of books that I didn‘t really care for. Establish more of a revolving (or evolving) collection of owned books. In short, I don‘t really have a “good” answer. If you come up with a solution, please let me know. I‘m in need of assistance as well!☺️ 4y
quanners @nute thanks for the comment! So far I‘ve only managed to rid of some paperbacks that are duplicates of hardcovers. I do have books stacked on each other. I removed magazines from baskets and put paperbacks there because I‘ve learned that they are inevitable. I‘m a hardcover snob! I‘m currently working on rearranging one of the bookshelves. #booklover 4y

Hey! I‘m putting together an infographic book review series of books by LGBTQ+ authors. I‘m looking for feedback on my rough outline before I start the project. What would you want to see added to these infographics? (Check then out on my Instagram, Kenyazero) #feedback #infographic

🤔The giver shouldn't say “Your report was confusing and lacked depth.“ They should share the data 🔍: “I noticed that you didn't distinguish between online and brick-and-motor sales. Let's discuss that....“

It would be nice if they did, but usually they don't - not because they're trying to be cagey or unclear. 😱 The process of moving from data to interpretation happens in a blink of an eye and is largely unconscious.“ 😱

A major part of my job involves giving and receiving feedback and this book has a lot of helpful ideas about that process! One is to separate appreciation, coaching, and evaluation. #nonfiction

EKonrad This has been on my TBR for awhile. Thanks for the reminder to read it! 😊 6y

What a #Dark #Vicious #SciFi story about two close friends who discovered the mystery about becoming an ExtraOrdinary Human with super power and in doing so, become each other's biggest enemy. Finished it during my Easter holiday & #VESchwab has definitely become one of my favorite fantasy/sci-fi authors with her unique stories & fantastic writing. Now I need something to lighten my mood
