Bailedbailed

#Unpopularopinion It wasn‘t the right time for me to read this book that everyone seems to love. It has all the ingredients for a great novel: Set in Italy (Tuscany), the Renaissance period and the famous Florence family d‘Medici. I guess that‘s the risk when you‘re on the hold list at the library that when the book arrives and you have 4 weeks to read, those 4 weeks may not be the right ones.

BkClubCare Oh, I know this mood-dilemma with library books! {{hug}} I think this is why I usually only check out one book at a time and loath to put on hold. “What if it arrives at the wrong time?!” 😱🫣 2y
Lesanne I bailed on it also, for very similar reasons. 2y
Tamra I struggle with library books because of the pressure of a looming due date. Dampens the joy. 😬On the other hand, I can‘t afford to buy books on a whim. #firstworldproblem 😉 2y

AnneCecilie @BkClubCare @Tamra @Suet624 I used to buy all the books I wanted to read, but I‘m running out of shelf space and I‘m terrible at culling. So, enter the library. And sometimes I have to put myself on the hold list and just wait. I try not to have too many boos out at the same time, but sometimes everything comes it at once. And I also want to read some of my own books in between the library books. It really is #firstworldproblem 2y
AnneCecilie @Lesanne There‘s comfort in knowing I‘m not the only one. I‘ve seen nothing but love for this one 2y
Suet624 Don‘t get me wrong. I currently have 2 audiobooks and 7 print books from the library. I have library cards from five local and distinct libraries. I am so full of gratitude that I have them as an option. I do feel pressure though on occasion to gallop through some of the reads because they are due and I start to fret that I won‘t finish them. In the meantime I buy books and don‘t get to read them. Definite first world problem. 🤣🤣 2y
AnneCecilie @Suet624 I knew this was the right place for these problems 😉 I have 16 books out from the library after returning 5 today and know I won‘t be able to read them all. I have no idea about how many times I have carried books between my home and the library unread, ordering them again and doing the same all over again until I either have them read or realize that now is not the time. 2y
Suet624 @AnneCecilie I like your approach. I seem to have an internal whip that requires that I return them having read them. I need to let go of that and just return them, knowing I can get them again later. 💕 2y
vlwelser I have an entire category on my reading spreadsheet that's labelled returned unread. You are not alone in this. I also sometimes return things if I start skimming. There's always going to be another book. 2y
vlwelser Sorry. I was looking at reviews for this book and somehow my brain forgot this was old news. 2y
AnneCecilie @vlwelser It‘s never old news to know how other book lovers handle their unread books and DNFs. 2y

Library hold came in! 👏🏾

Truthfully I‘m procrastinating by starting this one. I‘ve discovered over the years I really dislike packing for vacation. I‘d much rather unpack!

I‘m feeling disappointed our favorite camping area is closed due to flooding. It‘s our happy place and this will be the 3rd summer we miss it. #firstworldproblem I keep telling myself we‘ll find new wonderful places.

LeahBergen Enjoy your holiday! 3y
Ruthiella Sometimes the best reading time for me is when I am supposed to doing something else! 😂 Have fun camping! 3y
BarbaraBB Such a good read! 3y
EvieBee Have a safe trip! This is a great book, btw! 3y
Tamra Thank you @leahbergen @Ruthiella @BarbaraBB @EvieBee The writing is so witty right out of the gate! (edited) 3y

🌊𝕍𝕒𝕔𝕒𝕥𝕚𝕠𝕟 ℝ𝕖𝕒𝕕𝕚𝕟𝕘⛵️⁣

Kicked off my vacation reading 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 by 𝗔𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗰𝗞𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘆 on the island of Maui with a view of the islands of Lana'i & Moloka'i. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Now soft morning breezes, coffee, & 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝘂𝗹𝗲 by 𝗗𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗹𝗮 𝗠𝗰𝗧𝗶𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻 on my 7th-floor lanai are perfect. The cloud cover has lifted, the sun is shining. It will be pool time soon.⁣

What are you reading this weekend?

JenReadsAlot Gorgeous 😍 3y
Dragon That view is gorgeous! Enjoy! 3y

Chelsea.Poole Amazing view!! 🌊 3y
JHSiess @Chelsea.Poole This is my home-away-from-home. I would live here 3-4 months of the year . . . if I could afford it. Alas, I'm limited to about 6 weeks/year. #FirstWorldProblem

Mehso-so

We were supposed to be touching down in Santorini right about now 😩 so I picked a “summery” read. This started out promisingly enough but then sort of fell apart. There were real moments of humor and some great insight into the dynamics of blended families but the plot faltered halfway through and never recovered.

TrishB Hope you get some good reading in ❤️ so many disappointments at the moment. 4y
MicheleinPhilly @TrishB I‘m happy to have a break from work but it is disappointing. I know it‘s the ultimate #firstworldproblem but we were also going to hook up with J‘s family the following week in Spain. ☹️ Here‘s hoping I can sustain my reading mojo for the duration. 4y
squirrelbrain Ugh, sorry to hear about your cancelled hols. Hope you manage to have a good break anyway (and hopefully read some better books!) 😘 4y

Pope Joan: A Novel | Donna Woolfolk Cross
post image

I was reminded of this book today here on Litsy! Suddenly I remembered the pressing urgency I had to read it. I am saddened by how often I say, “ I always wanted to read that book. It‘s been a Want-To-Read book for a very long time. Maybe one day soon now. I‘m moving it up on my reading list!” What are we to do as readers with so much good literature to get to & the weight of not enough time in every day? Sometimes I hate to think about it.👇🏽

Nute I wish that I could eat books...hmm, maybe gross! I wish that I could breathe books in like air...that‘s it! Pope Joan...ten years later - still unread!☹️

PaperbackPirate Yes I agree! And then when I finally read them and they‘re awesome I‘m like, Why did I wait so long?! I guess having too many good books to read as opposed to too few is a good problem to have. 💙 5y

Kimberlone Same with this book! I‘ve had it on my shelf for over a year! 5y
MicheleinPhilly @PaperbackPirate I feel the same! I almost get mad at myself like “This amazing book has been here ignored for so many years!” 5y
Prairiegirl_reading I‘ve also had this book for years!! I really wish that books could be absorbed by osmosis or something. Like the information would just come into my brain simply by being nearby. 5y
Bookwomble If it makes you feel any better, I've got books I bought in the '70s I haven't read yet! 5y
thebluestocking I really enjoyed this one. I too have many many books languishing on my shelves, but I think sometimes books wait until we‘re ready. 💙 5y
Susannah Totally agree. I bought Pope Joan over 20 years ago and still haven‘t read it. Hope springs eternal that the urge to read it will strike hard enough that I‘ll actually pick it up. 🤭 5y
Nute @Kimberlone It takes a long time to work up enough courage and stamina to read certain books! 5y
Nute @MicheleinPhilly There are many books that I try to ignore the fact that they remain unread by me especially when I hear so many people voicing their accolades. This is one of those books! 5y
Nute @Prairiegirl_reading Yes! Reading accomplished by osmosis would be fantastic! 5y
Nute @Bookwomble Whoa! TBR hopefuls from the 70s! Oh, man! I should stop complaining!😅 5y
Nute @thebluestocking I like that way of thinking: the reader doesn‘t find the book, the book finds the reader. Yes!🙂 5y
Nute @Susannah Its crazy, because on Litsy you are constantly reminded of “Oh, I meant to read that book. Oh, I remember wanting to read that book. Hmmm, did I ever read that book?” And when you reacquaint yourself with the synopsis, it sounds so good..now you‘re thinking about it all over again and wondering when you can get to it with a sense of urgency!🤷🏽‍♀️ 5y
Kimberlone I am 100% guilty of this and also struggle with how to balance my reading priorities and interests. I also have a copy of this exact book that‘s been on my shelf for a couple of years still unread... (edited) 5y

Don Quixote Deluxe Edition | Miguel de Cervantes, Edith Grossman

First, I do want to acknowledge that this is most definitely a #firstworldproblem. Second, I‘m very sad two of my new books arrived (from Amazon) with folded pages, and the Don Quixote had a bent back cover. I figured there have to be a few Littens who will feel my pain! Grr! Lesson learned...#shoplocal.

Louise Oh, what a disappointment! Definitely a first world problem but one that devoted readers can truly understand! 6y
radhikeey I too had a lot of bad experiences with Amazon that I finally stopped ordering from there. Though flipkart hasn't disappointed me yet 😊 6y

JaclynW I feel the pain! I always make them send another if it's like that. 6y
LeahBergen 😠😠 6y
GingerAntics I hate when that happens. This is why I don‘t use amazon for books when I don‘t have to. This is so frustrating. 6y
Lovesbooks87 I got a book from Amazon yesterday and it was bent too. Not as bad as yours. It is upsetting! 6y
DGRachel I have had more and more books arrived damaged from Amazon. I really feel like they‘ve gotten to big for their britches and now order fewer books from them. I‘d rather pay a little more and be able to pick out a good copy at a local store than risk damage via USPS and have to fight with customer service for a new copy. 6y
Betty I inform Amazon and they send me replacement books 6y
TheWordJar @Betty I didn‘t even think of doing that! I‘m not too concerned about one of the books, but Don Quixote is in pretty rough shape. I may contact them. 6y
InBooksILive I've completely quit buying books from Amazon and went to ThriftBooks. The past few times the books have come in such terrible shape, like ripped pages/covers, missing pages, bent, etc, when paying for brand new. I've luckily gotten my money back the last few times the book was so bad and not something I could let go. 6y
