I‘m sorry. I just can‘t bring myself to read another sentence. A lot was promised, none of it was delivered.
#CarolynMcVickarEdwards #TheReturnOfTheLight #unpopularopinion #DNF #bail #couldntdoit

GingerAntics Of the 12 stories, only 6 can be readily found independent of the book in any form. Of those 6, three are either misnamed or given the wrong location, and a fourth is heavily changed, to the point of being a different story. The final story is part of Epiphany celebrations in Italy and nothing new to Catholic school pupils who had creative religion teachers. 1w
GingerAntics The “solstice” songs at the end are Christmas carols she changed some of the words to. The activities are slightly augmented Christmas traditions from around the world. She has sources, but even those don‘t come up for half the stories, so she‘s either changed them beyond recognition or combined multiple stories. 1w

Maybe I am alone here, because why are all the publishers doing it if it wasn't working in marketing meetings, but I had really hoped that 2025 would give us better covers.

#UnpopularOpinion I really am coming to dislike all the cartoon covers! I want good, artist made, gorgeous covers! Most of thees look like teen books to me.

I guess it is good becauase I want to buy less next year, and these covers are not screamig by me to me.

ChaoticMissAdventures I might pick up Harlem Rhapsody and Awake i nthe Floating City, those don't look too bad, and Ido like the cover of Sleep in the bottom corner. This photo is from People magazine anticipated 2025 books - https://people.com/bestselling-authors-most-anticipated-2025-books-exclusive-875... 3w
Bookwormjillk I read the ARC for Awake in the Floating City and loved it 3w
Bookwormjillk And I agree with you on the covers 3w

ChaoticMissAdventures @Bookwormjillk I just downloaded it! It sounds interesting. Glad to hear you loved it! 3w
Leftcoastzen I agree . Too many in the same style. More creativity please ! 3w
BarbaraBB Try to get the UK covers, they are mostly better - less infantile 😉 3w
ChaoticMissAdventures @BarbaraBB yes! I shop on Blackwell a lot for years I have preferred the UK covers for most books. 3w
CoverToCoverGirl Unfortunately it‘s the new “trend”. 3w

I actually finished a book, first one in days. This book has sat on my physical shelf for years so helping clear off my TBR
This was an overall enjoyable story, possibly a soft pick, but at times I felt it was overly convoluted & therefore the book was longer than it needed to be.
A few personal surprises for Bosch along the way. I find that whilst I enjoy the Bosch books it gets a bit boring with the runs in with Internal Affairs #SeriesLove2024

Andrew65 Perhaps I should tag this #UnpopularOpinion 1mo

#UnpopularOpinion This one was just OK for me. I felt like I was rereading so, it was easy to set aside & overlook for another book😅 I did like the tension buildup at the end though.

All that being said, I do very much enjoy this series & have the next instalments already in my library😏📚

TheSpineView Great job! 1mo
CoverToCoverGirl The title was more intense than the actual story.. bummer! 1mo
DieAReader @CoverToCoverGirl 🤷🏻‍♀️Sadly so this time. 1mo

#UnpopularOpinion time!

Chris Whitaker is just not for me. I think there's a really good story buried here, but he overwrites and gets in his own way. Sometimes beautiful writing is the point, but sometimes it is an obstacle. I find this to be the latter. He uses 100 words for what could be said in 10.

Glad it works for others, but it's not for me!

BarbaraBB Oh no… I have such high expectations of this one and have planned to read it later this month… 1mo
Suet624 @BarbaraBB I loved the characters but I can understand the complaint that there are some extended phases of the book that could have been cut. 1mo

TheKidUpstairs @BarbaraBB It honestly might just be me. I didn't like We Begin at the End, either. 1mo
BarbaraBB That‘s okay of course. I did like that one though so I will still try this one, even though your opinion matters a lot to me. Chances are I will like it! 1mo
TheKidUpstairs @BarbaraBB we can't ALWAYS agree, where would be the fun in that? 😂
I think the fact that I disliked We Begin at the End probably coloured my reading experience here as well. I went in with an attitude of “okay, I guess I'll try it“ as opposed to being really excited to read it. That kind of bias is hard to overcome. I hope it works better for you!
1mo
Suet624 @BarbaraBB I think We Begin was more succinct. Just prepare yourself for a long-ish read. It made me become more invested in the characters. 1mo
TheKidUpstairs @BarbaraBB I'm also on a bit of a bailing spree at the moment, so any negative opinions on books can be taken with a grain of salt! 1mo
Suet624 @TheKidUpstairs its a drag when everyone gushes about a book and I end up wondering what the heck I missed. I‘m sure you‘re not the only one giving this one a pass. 💕 (edited) 1mo
BarbaraBB That I do recognize! We‘ll see 🤞🏽 1mo
BarbaraBB @Suet624 Can you imagine that @squirrelbrain read it in a day in Gladstone‘s? She loved it so I am quite curious where I‘ll end up! 1mo
Suet624 @BarbaraBB you‘re kidding!! That‘s amazing. 1mo
TrishB I loved this- could have been longer! 1mo
squirrelbrain I loved it too but did feel there were a few bits in the middle that could have been cut slightly. I found it a LOT better than We Begin so hopefully you‘ll be OK @BarbaraBB 1mo
Megabooks Overwriting is a huge pet peeve for me! 1mo
Chelsea.Poole Oh no! I felt “off” about his other I read and also thought it was just me. I was planning to give him another try with this one and assign it for book club next year. But now I‘m wondering if I‘ll feel the same as you do! 1mo
TheKidUpstairs @Chelsea.Poole still worth trying it, so many people love it. But if you didn't love We Begin, I'd say it's definitely a borrow not a buy to try it. I will say, the story was more engaging than We Begin, I just found the writing style confusing and off putting (for me) 1mo
Bren912 I agree he overwrote and I found myself skimming but I still@loved it. :) 1mo

After her mother dies and she loses the farm, Mary Yellan moves in with her aunt Patience and uncle Joss at the Jamaica Inn. Mary meets Joss's brother Jem and the Vicar. Something shady is going on at the Inn and Mary is going to find out what. Overall, the writing is beautiful, the story is good - I just could not connect right now.
#HitchtoScreen @JenlovesJT47 looking forward to watch party!
Make a great day everyone 🙂

JenlovesJT47 I just finished it a few minutes ago and I loved it. But I know what you mean. Sometimes you read certain books when you‘re not necessarily in the mood and can‘t connect. I‘m looking forward to watching the movie! ☺️ 1mo
bthegood @JenlovesJT47 I'm glad I read it though, had never heard of it and the writing is amazing- you can feel the dread and dreariness of the Inn, and the rain/cold of the moors 🙂 (edited) 1mo
JenlovesJT47 Very true! The whole vibe is haunting and creepy. 1mo

Ruthiella I didn‘t like this one too much either. I think I was expecting something on the level of Rebecca and this is not that. 1mo

This might be a #unpopularopinion because I've only seen So-So ratings on this before. But I've become a political person, so I loved listening to Arthur and the whole rest is just as lovable and adoring as part one. But especially the afterword by Klune almost made me cry. I wish there was a safe-space like this somewhere in our world. Klune saw my fears, and that of many others, sees us and sends us a tight embrace. Exactly what I needed.

#UnpopularOpinion

This was too long (nearly 500pp). So Grinch adjacent, it was cringe. Why does the narrator have to break the fourth wall? Why the overly grumpy big sister? Why all the weird Christmas competitions? Why this stupid 3rd act break-up? Why not more focus on the romance between the main couple, outside of the 🌶️ scenes? Feels like they went from insta-hate to insta-lust to Insta-love. And that epilogue?

Very un-MeghanQuinn-like. 😐
