#unpopularopinion 😬

Listened to this on #audio and it felt like it took forever. I did make it through but mostly found it kinda boring 🤷🏻‍♀️

StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego I didn't love this one either. 5h
Bookish.SAM @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego ... very happy to hear I‘m not alone. I didn‘t hate it, just meh... and it seems to be loved by so many. 5h

Just like the authors, we saved the best for last. So it might come as no surprise since this is award #3 this year...

But Daisy Jones is also taking home the #LitsyAward for the best Fiction book of 2019.

Happy reading everyone.

ljuliel Am I counting right ? This won 3 awards ? And who has had a copy of it sitting by on my Audible, waiting for me to listen to it ? 😁 10h

SaturnDoo @ljuliel 😂😂 I'm in the #unpopularopinion & #dontbelievethehype groups on this one. 7h
ljuliel @SaturnDoo That‘s ok. 🙂 We don‘t all like the same books. If we did, it‘d be a boring world. I bought this in audio when it first came out, so I guess one of these days I‘ll give it a listen to see what I think. 7h
SaturnDoo @ljuliel I haven't listened to the audio but have been told it's so much better than reading the book. Maybe someday I'll listen. 😊 7h
ljuliel I sorta thought by the sounds of how it was written that the print wouldn‘t do it justice. It sounds like it should be done in audio, like live interviews ? I‘m not sure. We shall see one of these days. I like audiobooks with multiple narrators. @saturndoo (edited) 7h
marleed I loved both formats! 5h

Checked Litsy for far too long, but I needed a break from rolling my eyes.

I don't like - what exactly? The story could be great, but the writing style is middle-grade rather than YA. And I've got the impression that the story is leading nowhere.

#buddyread @DuckOfDoom

CrowCAH The writing was rather simple. 2d
Catherine_Willoughby @CrowCAH sometimes simple is okay . Can't be all high Literature 2d
Kaddele I started this a while ago but put it down after a while - as you said, the writing is a bit simple ... 2d

Such a Fun Age | KILEY. REID

#unpopularopinion I thought the book was just okay. It was a compelling story, but I felt like I was watching a trainwreck and I couldn't look away. Maybe I went into it expecting more because of all the hype this book got. I felt that the characters were flat and almost like caricatures of stereotypes. The ending fell flat for me, and the writing was not memorable. A fast read but definitely overhyped, IMO.

Well, I persisted. Went ahead and finished it. It ended up being a lovely book. And I finally found that I did get attached to a couple of characters- John and Shay. While the intent of the book was not completely clear, the author‘s note at the end was helpful. I bought this book because it‘s the Barnes and Noble book club pick, but also because I think the cover with all the birds is gorgeous!

Cinfhen I didn‘t particularly care for this book #Unpopularopinion but I agree, cover is stunning 🥰 4d
Bklover @Cinfhen I posted earlier today that was considering bailing on it. The main reason I continued with it was lack of motivation to select a different book. A lot of things (still) don‘t make sense, but I still enjoyed it. 4d
GHABI4ROSES Reading it as well; Barnes! 4d

Cinfhen I thought the premise was actually better than the story and I found the whole story wayyyyy too saccharine but that‘s me and my cynical mind 😁 4d
Cathythoughts Beautiful cover ❤️ 4d
Follow.my.read Plugging through right now. Not my usual read but a friend loved it so here I am....not pulling me in, but I will finish it. 4d

Oh dear. How does one bail on a beloved book? This one just wasn‘t for me in the end. Even with the buddy read (thanks @CoffeeNBooks !), I find I just don‘t want to pick it back up after making it halfway. I need some plot, and this book just doesn‘t have any. So, much as #Greta is sliding off the dog bed, I will slide out of this book. #unpopularopinion #dogsofLitsy

Soubhiville I didn‘t care for this book either! I think you might be the only other person I‘ve ever heard say that. Also, Sietje‘s favorite bed method has always been pretty much what Greta is doing: back half on the bed, front half on the floor. Weird. 4d
Hooked_on_books @Soubhiville I‘m a little boggled by why it‘s so popular. But it obviously resonates with a lot of people, which is great. Greta actually slid all the way off the bed two nights ago and only the back two legs were still on it. And Gunther always used to lay on the couch with his head dangling off. Weirdos. 4d
Soubhiville Wow, I‘m trying to picture Gunther with his head hanging off the couch. Seems really uncomfortable. There were little snippets I liked, such as Francie‘s love for the library and plan to read all the books, and the story of the doll Mary (if you got that far), but mainly I was bored and kind of appalled with the adult‘s behavior. I understand a lot of that was due to the times, but what a sad situation. 4d

Bette I always feel guilty too when I don't like something everyone raves about. Liked your review. 👍 ❤️🐶 4d
Hooked_on_books @Soubhiville I definitely liked pieces as well. I don‘t remember the doll, but Francie and the library was great and I loved Sissy. I emailed you a picture of Gunther that I found on my phone. He was such a goof. 4d
Hooked_on_books @Bette Thank you! Sometimes I just hate a book people love and then I‘m driven crazy by the glowing reviews. 😂 I was at least happy here that I didn‘t hate it. Just didn‘t work for me. But it makes me happy that so many people love it—I‘m glad they are having a good reading experience. 4d
Bette Yep. When Handing books across the desk at the library that I didn't care for I was always like: I hope you like it! Cuz every book isn't for everyone. 👍❤️ 4d
Hooked_on_books @Bette That‘s an excellent point! Booksellers would have this issue, too. I read a funny story of a librarian suggesting a book to a patron that she knew would be a bit of a stretch but she thought the woman could handle it. The patron returned the book 3 days later and avoided looking the librarian in the face for a while plus never asked for a recommendation again. Funny but oops! 😂 4d
Bette A pitfall for sure! 😳🤣 4d

All Grown Up | Jami Attenberg

#unpopularopinion I found the main character here immature, annoying, and selfish. She was the source of her own unhappiness and malaise in most cases and I was tired of the book long before I reached the end. j9brown I felt exactly the same. At least it was short 😬 1w

I was looking forward to this but it was ultimately not for me. This gossipy tale about Truman Capote and the society matrons he befriends and betrays seems overly long and doesn‘t delve especially deeply into the lives it portrays. I was more annoyed than intrigued by it all. #unpopularopinion unofficial #24in48

charl08 I agree. Was a meh from me. 1w

The Nightingale | Kristin Hannah

I look so angry in this photo. 😂 But I think my facial expression properly conveys how I feel about my least favorite reads. I definitely read some fantastic books in 2019 and did relatively well DNFing books that I wasn‘t enjoying. But there were eight that I saw all the way through that I ended up giving low ratings to. Let me tell you all about them! https://youtu.be/tJ1BgSR79VI

EadieB @Butterflyamore Enjoyed your video. I only had 5 books out of 200 last year that were a waste of my time so I feel blessed. I read The Nightingale and I think that most people love Kristin Hannah's novels because she invokes a lot of emotional feelings. I enjoyed the book but it was not one of best ones. The one I enjoyed the most from her was The Great Alone. I think you should try that one. 1w
EadieB @Butterflyamone In regards to Claire McGowan, I may be prejudice because I love her Paula Maguire series. The Other Wife is not her best either but I do suggest you try at least the first book of her series and see if it's her writing or the subject matter that you don't like. 1w
Butterflyamore @EadieB Thanks for the recommendations! 1w
