The Eyes of Heisenberg | Frank Herbert
post image
Mehso-so

One of Frank Herbert's early novellas, this one based on what happens when human genetic/cybernetic alterations are pushed to the extreme. It's a bit dated at this point, but the concept is still good.

This book... was. I‘m not even sure what to do with this book. There are three “books” within this tome. They all seem to be three completely different stories, with totally different feels to them, with an unclear time difference between the second and third. The first book is really good. The characters are likeable. The intrigue found within the world built there is great.

GingerAntics Unfortunately, from the beginning of book two, the story goes quickly downhill and become a hot mess. I just don‘t get the hype. #FrankHerbert #Dune 3y
GingerAntics I can also pretty much guarantee I won‘t be seeing the movie. 3y
RamsFan1963 I've always told people who ask, read Dune and stop there. I found Dune Messiah and Children of Dune only so-so. The less said about the other various sequels and prequels, the better. 3y

GingerAntics @RamsFan1963 I‘ve heard several people say you can‘t really understand Dune if you don‘t read the original 6 book series. 🤷🏼‍♀️ It‘s not happening. It was painful to get through the last book, and I just don‘t get it. 3y
RamsFan1963 @GingerAntics I've read the 6 books Frank Herbert wrote, and 3 prequel books his son wrote with Kevin Anderson. After The Butlerian Jihad, I gave up on the Dune universe. 3y
GingerAntics @RamsFan1963 I don‘t think I‘ve ever heard anything good about the prequels. 3y
RamsFan1963 @GingerAntics House Atreides, House Harkonnen and House Corrino weren't horrible books, they were just so incredibly unnecessary. They add little to Paul's story. 3y
GingerAntics @RamsFan1963 I heard the series wasn‘t supposed to be about Paul. He‘s only in the first book and then the second one is somehow about him, but he‘s not in it? I have no idea. 3y
RamsFan1963 @GingerAntics Paul is the main character in the first two books, then a side character in Children of Dune, the weakest IMHO of the original trilogy. 3y
GingerAntics @RamsFan1963 I was on the wait list for Dune Messiah at the library, but I just don‘t think I can do it. I‘ve considered reading through Dune very slowly as everyone talks about all the layers and the philosophy (like a page or two a day sort of thing), but I‘m still not really sure I want to. 3y

I‘ve waited a LONG time (almost 2 years) for this audiobook, so I‘m going to listen (and follow along in my beautiful Penguin Galaxy edition) while I‘ve got it.

I loved Dune, and can't wait to see the re-make movie, so I have high expectations for this as well. #tbrpile
