Didn‘t care for this one too much. It felt like information/storyline that was too much to add to either the first or third books so Herbert made it its own book. Or like an after thought to connect plot lines between books.
I‘m going to go on to book 3, so this one hasn‘t put me off the series 😊

On a whim decided to read this. I knew nothing except sci-fi and futuristic.
It was interesting and good enough I put a hold in on the second book.
The story was good, the writing good, I liked most of the characters. We shall see where the series takes us.

RamsFan1963 The first 3 books, Dune, Dune Messiah and Children of Dune, are excellent. After that, with all the various sequels & prequels, its hit or miss. I did like the House series (House Atreides, House Harkonnen, & House Corrino) but the rest I've either passed or bailed on. 2w
OrangeMooseReads @RamsFan1963 thanks for the info ☺️ I didn‘t realize there were so many lol 2w

It's been a loooooong time since I read the og 6 Dune books. And I've been avoiding these non-Frank Herbert sequels and prequels because I just kind of did not care, even though Dune 6 ended on a cliffhanger, then FH died. But I enjoyed the latest Dune films and am enjoying the series Dune: Prophecy, so I thought "could be fun to get back into that world."

"Fun" is not the right word, unfortunately. This book was fine bordering on lame. ?‍♀️

When I first read this novel I remember feeling short-changed at how the story of Dune had just fizzled out. I enjoyed it more now because I get what I missed as a younger man. Also, I recently read Brian Herbert‘s Paul of Dune which is set between Frank‘s first two novels. Yes, Frank is mystical, philosophical and profound while Brian and his co-writer are just straight up action/pulp sci-fi, but, for me, the combined books make a great trilogy.

Bookwomble I first read the trilogy in a single volume and just went through them all as one book, so that's how I still think of them. I love all three parts. Poor Muad'Dib 🐁 4mo

It really is as good as Iremember it. Along with Jules Vern or HG Wells, Frank Herbert was one of the OG authors who mashed up sci-fi and fantasy. There is so much packed into this one book: commentary on politics, commentary on society, religion, feminism, toxic masculinity (before that was even a thing), revenge, love. I feel like the grandfather at the beginning of “The Princess Bride” explaining to his grandson why this book is so exciting.

Liked it, but not as much as I was thinking I would. This volume seemed to lack the fascination of the other books. Maybe it was just the wrong book at the wrong time 🤷 I'll definitely want to continue reading the series, I want to see where the whole thing goes.
