The tagged book is a book I‘m currently studying in part for university. It‘s a fascinating and I feel, important book that illuminates how museums work to create displays of memorial or commemoration in relation to the holocaust. I‘ve been looking at United States Holocaust Museum and the Memorial of the Shoah in particular. Has anyone been to either of these museums? #history #holocaust #shoah #WWII #museum #nonfiction #historystudent

wanderinglynn No, I haven‘t gotten to it yet, but I live in DC where the U.S. Holocaust Museum is located. 7y
DivineDiana I have been to the U.S. Holocaust Museum in DC. It was a haunting experience. 7y
emilyhaldi No but I have been to the Terezin Holocaust Memorial and Museum outside of Prague... It was extremely humbling and powerful to see and remember. 7y

Samplergal I have been to the DC Holocaust museum. I always say to visitors to dc, if you nothing else, you should see that. Skip the rest. It‘s chilling and will live in you forever, as it should. 7y
Sophoclessweetheart @wanderinglynn Oh! I see. I‘d be interested to see it, but being in the U.K. it isn‘t likely to happen. X 7y
Sophoclessweetheart @DivineDiana I can imagine it would be. Even looking at it in photos I get the feeling of eerie silence. X 7y
Sophoclessweetheart @emilyhaldi Ah! I can imagine! X 7y
Sophoclessweetheart @Samplergal As it should indeed. It‘s not likely I‘ll ever get to visit the USA but if I ever get the chance I shall make effort to go there! I live 20-30 minutes away from the National Holocaust Museum here in the U.K. but I fear it isn‘t quite a patch on the DC one. X 7y
Cinfhen I‘ve been to Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Israel. I toured with a survivor...an experience that will stay with me forever 😭😭😭😭I regret not visiting the museum in DC... 7y
Samplergal @Wanderingwithwords what stuck with me was the sound levels. You start on the third floor and people are talking, even “laughing”. By the time you reach the ground floor, utter silence. People simply wept silently. 7y
Sophoclessweetheart @Cinfhen I bet that was an amazing and haunting experience. X 7y
Sophoclessweetheart @Samplergal Thank you for sharing that. It must be so dramatic to see such a change invoked in people. It must be something. X 7y
Cinfhen @Samplergal 💔💔💔 7y
Cinfhen My older kids have been to the museum in DC and they have been to Poland with their school to see Auschwitz first hand... @Samplergal they both mentioned that same feeling of utter silence and disbelief 7y
Sophoclessweetheart @Cinfhen It‘s Wonderful that your children‘s school cover this in their curriculum, it‘s always been something that goes unmentioned in history classes here (at least up until I was in school, I‘m not sure the curriculums nowadays!) and I‘ve always found that disgusting. It‘s something all schools should cover I feel. 7y

My morning in a nutshell. Drinking all the tea, wanting to read more Nelly Dean, but writing an article on working life in Victorian England for uni. To be fair, I love my subject and enjoy writing articles and essays about history... but I really really want to read Nelly Dean right now. It‘s raining, cold and wet. Perfect reading weather. #historystudent #history #retelling #studentlife #booklover #bibliophile #bookish

somebooksaround I hope the university work goes fast so you can get back to reading!🙌🙌🙌 7y
Sophoclessweetheart @josteele Thank you Jordan! 😁💛 I‘ll be cool soon but it‘s the first week back and it‘s always tough getting back into the swing x 7y
laurieluna That mug 😍 I'm hoping to take some OU courses once the boys are in school, just to broaden my knowledge! Hope you get finished soon! X 7y

Sophoclessweetheart @miralunasbooknook Thank you! I love this mug. I took the OU for my degree on the advice of my college. They said I it would be the best place to do distance learning so I can study at home to be here for my toddler. I didn‘t want to leave her while I was away all day studying. It‘s working out okay though because by the time I graduate my degree I then go into my masters and phD at the university I wanted to go to originally as she‘ll be in schoo 7y
Sophoclessweetheart A lot of my classmates are just doing OU courses for knowledge and fun though! It‘s good for that too it seems. But for me it‘s all about my career. I‘m determined to reach my dreams and become an historian. 😁💛 7y
laurieluna @Wanderingwithwords you can totally do it! I expect to see you doing doing documentaries on the BBC in 5 years tops like Mary Beard! 😉 no pressure! 😄 x 7y
Sophoclessweetheart @miralunasbooknook 😹😹😹 Oh gosh! You‘ve no idea how much I‘d love that. Be the next Helen Castor or Lucy Wosley! 😹😹 I‘ll shout you out on the BBC for your early support 😉😹💛 Humbly though, I‘d just be happy to work in a museum or historical building of choice and writing nonfiction on my chosen eras/people. Xx 7y
quietlycuriouskate You're an OU student? I did a diploma in Law with them a few years back. 7y
Sophoclessweetheart @River_Voice I am! I‘m working towards my BA in History with them. X 7y
SamanthaMarie Ooo that is perfect reading weather. I hope you got to enjoy it eventually!!! 7y
Sophoclessweetheart @SamanthaMarie I‘m still waiting but it‘s my intention for this evening x 7y

• Currently loving both of my current reads - Isabella of France being one of them. I am OVER THE MOON today because my uni department called and said they'd fixed up my issues and I am safely back on my BA History- no hassle, no fuss! I'm so glad I get my first choice back! 〰 #history #historystudent #amberleypublishing #book #booklover #bookblogger #bibliophile
