pickI've always loved Cornwell's battle scenes, and in this book, they really get center stage. The brutal reality of medieval warfare may even be a more important character than any of the named individuals. How armies were built up, how they travelled, what a siege and a battle looked, felt, and smelled like are described in detail, as is some of the aftermath.
