Starlight | Richard Wagamese

This book felt close to a masterpiece even with being unfinished. Not having an ending was okay for me; I actually like ambiguity and being able to imagine what might come next, and it felt like enough pieces had come together. Truly beautiful extension of Medicine Walk. Knowing there will never be more Wagamese books is a loss, however I'm grateful I've read out of publishing order and still have several I can go back to before I run out.

My birthday celebration this year is settling into my reading chair to immerse myself in the wonderful natural world created by Richard Wagamese in Starlight. Still have to stare at empty shelves in this room until Boxing Day before I can trust the paint enough to fill them, so trying to be patient. Have my husband working on the wooden mountain backdrop for the centre section though. This is the best birthday/Christmas present I ever received.

CuriousG @AmyG @Chelsea.Poole @dabbe @AnnCrystal @Anna40 @bthegood Thank you! I am truly spoiled. It's nice that my guests will now be able to sleep in this wonderful space too as before they had to be in the basement which is livable, but certainly not ideal. 12mo

Starlight, Richard Wagamese‘s unfinished last novel, is a gripping read. There‘s suspense and quiet joy all at the same time, and I had to keep turning the pages to find out what happened. The publisher included notes about how Wagamese‘s circle think it was likely to have ended, a scene from an unpublished novella, and an essay by Wagamese that fits the theme of the story. I highly recommend this but you need to read Medicine Walk first.

Reading this book was like reading a PBS special. I could hear the soothing voiceover of a narrator the entire time haha Going season by season the authors visit different homes in Norway, discussing architecture, history, hobbies, and ways of life. I'm not sure how much this book reflects the majority of Norwegians' lives as it seemed to focus a lot on the artsy types, but the photography was gorgeous & it was all & all an enjoyable #FoodandLit⬇️

TheAromaofBooks (cont'd) read. I'm fascinated by life so close to the Arctic Circle in terms of daylight & weather & loved reading how the people who live here embrace winter & the long hours of darkness. @Butterfinger @Texreader 3y
Texreader The one time I was there in the winter I realized I was sleepy all the time. I learned I‘m really regulated by the sun! 3y
AnneCecilie @Texreader You get used to the dark, and the long days for that matter. It happens gradually through the seasons. Even if I must confess that I‘m happy that I don‘t live above the polar circle. 3y

Texreader @AnneCecilie The long days are just lovely. Until recently I had chronic insomnia so it was nice to sit in the blue light past midnight. 3y
TheAromaofBooks @Texreader @AnneCecilie - I just don't know how I would do with such short days - I feel like I'm very solar-powered!! My brother was in Alaska for two weeks in the summer when it's daylight 24hrs & said it was very peculiar to basically just live by the clock because the position of the sun didn't tell you much!! 3y
Chrissyreadit That looks like a really fun book! 3y
TheAromaofBooks @Chrissyreadit - I really enjoyed it even though it wasn't exactly what I was expecting. And the photography was lovely. 3y

Mshookquilts Proud of you for working on it. Never thought of putting my certification book on. Maybe I will now that I‘ve finished the book (not the course yet) 5y

1.5/5⭐ When a book is limited to discussing only a handful of colors, most of them pales/pastels, everything starts to get samesy after only a couple pages. This book has two things to say: 1) painting wall trim the same color throughout the house unifies the rooms, and 2) yellow is a brightening color. And it says it over, and over, and over again.
