Second book club book in a row that feels like it wont ever end despite being 190 pages. Maybe its the translation, maybe its the way the dialogue is presented. Maybe its the little boy who i strongly dislied. i dont know. i got to part 3 and said enough. ugh…

Mehso-so

The story of Odysseus's homecoming, told alternatively from Odysseus's and Penelope's point of view.

For much of this book I felt it was just a re-telling of the second half of the Odyssey which stuck too close to the original. It was only after Odysseus (disguised as the beggar) and Penelope met and the two tricksters start manoeuvring round each other that I really thought we were getting anything new.

Loved it! 💜 Penelope gets her revenge and Odysseus gets to remain true to his exaggeratory & vainglorious nature. I won‘t spoil it by revealing how! Ingenious though.

A testament to the rich imagination and humanity of Homeric lit that the stories live on thru retellings that never feel stale.

Quick read, with the two point of view characters serving as windows into discussions about identity, immigration, assimilation, family, and more. Writing style is lively, with many references. Plot is on the weaker side, but the variety of characters makes up for it.

In my humble opinion, parents shouldn't be in a hurry to give names to their children haphazardly, they should wait until the child grows up and get an idea of his or her character, physical appearance, and so on. You pay dearly for a wrong, inadequate, improvised name, because it produces complexes. Tell me your name, and I'll tell you who you are and if you've got any psychological problems. Clear?

I think I‘d like to read this in October or November.🍃🍂🍁
Do the seasons ever figure in your decisions about when you may be inclined to read certain books?

DivineDiana Yes, they do! 5y
Lesliereads @DivineDiana you get me🖐🏾😊! 5y
JazzFeathers Wouldn't say so. There are so many other factors deciding what story to read, that the season rarely matters fir me. 5y
