Good morning!!
Supporting Alabama authors by reading the tagged book.
Synopsis:
"In an immersive Southern Gothic with echoes of Shirley Jackson's The Lottery, a restauranteur lured by pandemic-era incentives moves her family to a seemingly idyllic small town in Georgia, only to discover a darkness lurking beneath the Southern hospitality and sun-dappled streets..."
It's got those eerie vibes (chapter 10, p 91)

Y'all know I know my serial killers 😬💋 the book is decent and I'm trying to get into the Netflix show but it's kind of a buzzkill because I know the story already. People are so shocked with the show. Do they not know what mentally/emotionally deranged individuals are capable of? Dahmer's story is definitely one of the more disturbing/fascinating from a mental illness standpoint. Spooky season #truecrime.

P 357. Won't be long before I will (hopefully) be cuddling up under blankets while reading paperbacks. I say hopefully because it's still very warm here. I am sooooo ready for Fall 🍁🍂 and October

One of several Ann Rule books I've got going at the moment. Can't stop. Won't stop. I mean...until they go back to the library for a bit and then of course I'll be back for them!!

I'm still reading The Stranger Beside Me and loving it. However, I started this Ann Rule tonight. I'm all set for some disturbing reading with this True Crime. I can't even imagine where children are concerned but I will literally read anything. I guess it's just my innate curiosity about what makes these monsters act in such heinous ways. Tell me more about Ann Rule...I love her already!! (I know she's passed away 😔)

Ayn Rand is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. I am currently reading not 1 but 3 of her novels. I couldn't get through Anthem however. She's definitely what I consider an acquired taste. What's your favorite Ayn Rand book? I want to read her nonfiction at some point.
Spooky tales. Perfect for the fall but pretty good right now too 🙂 currently reading the California section. And not to brag or anything but my home state of Alabama has one of the best ghost stories EVER 😬😱 #currentlyreading #nonfiction #supernatural
Took so long to finish but I was constantly mentally comparing and contrasting the book with the movie. It was good but too much sometimes. The whole story is creepy as hell, based on real life monsters. Good writing. I'm interested in more Thomas Harris but not anytime soon.
Been MIA for a while but I have not actually finished a book in ages!! 😬😬 this one is getting better. About 110 pages left tho...
Good Saturday morning...or is it? My book is so done with life it's decided to split in half. I had been mending it for weeks. It's just sad to look at but I'm going to finish reading it! It's a riveting book!

Unlike her Lady Lazarus, she wouldn't find it 'easy enough to do it and stay put'. Sylvia Plath wouldn't survive the suicide, but 'Sylvia Plath' would.

For nearly two years, almost every Thursday morning, rain or shine, they came to my house, and almost every time, I could not get over the shock of seeing them shed their mandatory veils and robes and burst into color. When my students came into that room, they took off more than their scarves and robes. Gradually, each one gained an outline and a shape, becoming her own inimitable self. Our world in that living room with its window framing...

PROBABLY THE BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ. That's it, that's the review (for now).

You didn't walk in here for books. You didn't have to say my name. You didn't have to smile or listen or take me in. But you did. Your signature is on the receipt. This wasn't a cash transaction and it wasn't a coded debit. This was real. I press my thumb into the wet ink on your receipt and the ink of Guinevere Beck stains my skin.

Something in her life was solved: she knew about the chess pieces and how they moved and captured, and she knew how to make herself feel good in the stomach and in the tense joints of her arms and legs, with the pills the orphanage gave her.

Happy Friday!!
Ewww. This is how the Chinese man would have "taken" his own child? What the fuck!! Also, I have no idea what the hell happened. The whole book was just a mess of nothing. The characters (what characters??) were not worth six paragraphs, let alone 100 pages. Just. No.

Surprisingly, the library had a copy. I picked it up on a whim. Prob won't make much of a dent before it's due back but it's worth a shot. Good so far. Who else is reading this one? Thoughts?

"She surged with mommy adrenaline, the knowledge she was doing what was best for her child and focusing on his needs. How can I be a more perfect mother? she wanted to know. She was nearly foaming at the mouth with the question, with projecting the most mommyishness she could. Of course, there would be some dog in there, too, but she could just tuck that in behind everything, behind her most excellent motherhood."

There are some interesting scientific considerations in this book!

“You are good to those who are good to you. […] If people were always kind and obedient to those who are cruel and unjust, the wicked people would have it all their own way: they would never feel afraid, and they would never alter, but would grow worse and worse. When we are struck at without a reason, we should strike back again very hard; I am sure we should—so hard as to teach the person who has struck us never to do it again.”
