TheBookAddict I've heard that The Golden Compass is really good. I enjoyed the movie and have the book on my TBR. 8y
8little_paws Does she have any pets? A favorite animal? 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @8littlepaws She has a dog, a cat and a snake. She is a vegetarian and wants to be a veterinarian! 😃 (edited) 8y
cathysaid Anything in the Redwall series by Brian Jacques. I'll tag the first book. 8y
I-read-and-eat I devoured Ugly Bugs as a child. Probably read it once a month. So if she loves insects and other little creatures 8y
[DELETED] 3517561138 I would definitely suggest James Herriot. He was a country veterinarian in England and he has written several stories of his adventures with animals and pet owners! My 12 year old loves him. 8y
451Degrees It's a fiction book but I always liked the lionboy series 8y
saresmoore I'll limit it to two recommendations, each comprehensive and gorgeous in its own right. The Firefly Encyclopedia of Animals has a vintage nature journal feel; it's illustrated. The tagged DK Smithsonian has stunning photographs and TONS of interesting facts. 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Kalalalatja Oh wow - that book look amazing! Thanks 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @TheBookAddict The Golden Compass is a terrific idea. I loved it. But she asked for nonfiction this time! 👍🏻 8y
Echo Also there are a ton of $5 books that are nonfiction here: https://shop.bydesign.com/UsborneBooksAndMore/#/shop?category... 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @EvieBee84 Primates looks wonderful - I love the role models in science aspect too. Thanks! 8y
Echo Good luck! And congratulations on having a reader in the family! 8y
BookInMyHands I love to buy nonfiction for my kids. The fiction they read fast so we mostly check it out from the library, but this book my son goes back to again and again. 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage These recommendations have been amazing, just like I knew they would be! I picked Primates (from @EvieBee84), Firefly Encyclopedia of Animals (from @saresmoore), and All Creatures Great and Small (from @Prairiehomelibrarian). I'm saving all the other suggestions for future gifts! 😘😘😘😘 (edited) 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Thanks so much for the ideas @cathysaid @I-read-and-eat @451Degrees @MKWoods @BookInMyHands. You guys are the best bookish friends! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 8y
Nebklvr The Scholastic "Who Would Win" series are short, fun, and interesting. Shark vs killer whale, etc. 8y
Nebklvr Also, books like "Dewey" the library cat are good. I hate it when the animal dies so I stay away from the war dogs 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Nebklvr Thanks! I definitely don't like animals dying in my books - or for kids! 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @EvieBee84 @saresmoore @Prairiehomelibrarian My granddaughter loved all three of the books you guys suggested! She especially spent time with the Firefly Encyclopedia reptile section! Thank you all again. 😻 8y
saresmoore I'm so glad to hear it! 8y
EvieBee I'm so glad! 8y
