With more than 200 gorgeous animal photos of lions, giraffes, ibexes, flamingos, hippopotamuses, and many others, "Animal Planet Wild Animals" is a fun, habitat-by-habitat guide that provides kids in the first years of schooling with the perfect bite-sized view of their favorite wild animals. Arranged thematically with focus on animal behavior and family relationships, young readers will explore sections about animal bodies, baby animals, food, play time, conservation and more. Special book features designed for this age group include Quick Bites sidebars with cool animal facts, simple infographics, and illustrated maps of life in the African savannah and Amazon rain forest. 1. If dragons count as animals, then I choose The Hobbit. Smaug is my favorite critter character, and has my favorite dialogue in the book. If I have to choose real animals I'd go with Watership Down. I love those rabbits.
2. No pets currently.
3. Birds of prey
4. Only for a day? Heck, I want to be a bear for the winter! Fatten me up and let me sleep for a few months!
#ManicMonday @JoScho

Karkar I love those rabbits too! 🐰🐰🐰 7y
JoScho I could not agree more with #4! 7y

For @MinDea #humpdaypost
1. I‘m sorry for your loss. From top right around: Mussolini (bro‘s cat), Ramona (the Pest) (bro‘s dog), “Old Lady” Dory, Pretty Princess, “Little Lady” Isabella
2. Cross-stitch, book hoarding, sewing, other pretending to be crafty things
3. Love all kinds of fruit and veggie
4. Never gotten one.
5. I will try to, but I‘m not really going anywhere today.

MinDea Thank you. Your furbabies are all adorable! 7y

Help! Mr. B. and I need a suggestion for our granddaughter! I thought Littens - especially you teachers and librarians - would have marvelous idea. Thanks for your #recommendations! 😘😘

TripleS How old?? 8y
TripleS Clearly I didn't look at the picture! Hah! 8y
Kalalalatja Has she read this? 😊 8y

TheBookAddict I've heard that The Golden Compass is really good. I enjoyed the movie and have the book on my TBR. 8y
8little_paws Does she have any pets? A favorite animal? 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @8littlepaws She has a dog, a cat and a snake. She is a vegetarian and wants to be a veterinarian! 😃 (edited) 8y
cathysaid Anything in the Redwall series by Brian Jacques. I'll tag the first book. 8y
I-read-and-eat I devoured Ugly Bugs as a child. Probably read it once a month. So if she loves insects and other little creatures 8y
[DELETED] 3517561138 I would definitely suggest James Herriot. He was a country veterinarian in England and he has written several stories of his adventures with animals and pet owners! My 12 year old loves him. 8y
451Degrees It's a fiction book but I always liked the lionboy series 8y
saresmoore I'll limit it to two recommendations, each comprehensive and gorgeous in its own right. The Firefly Encyclopedia of Animals has a vintage nature journal feel; it's illustrated. The tagged DK Smithsonian has stunning photographs and TONS of interesting facts. 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Kalalalatja Oh wow - that book look amazing! Thanks 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @TheBookAddict The Golden Compass is a terrific idea. I loved it. But she asked for nonfiction this time! 👍🏻 8y
Echo Also there are a ton of $5 books that are nonfiction here: https://shop.bydesign.com/UsborneBooksAndMore/#/shop?category... 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @EvieBee84 Primates looks wonderful - I love the role models in science aspect too. Thanks! 8y
Echo Good luck! And congratulations on having a reader in the family! 8y
BookInMyHands I love to buy nonfiction for my kids. The fiction they read fast so we mostly check it out from the library, but this book my son goes back to again and again. 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage These recommendations have been amazing, just like I knew they would be! I picked Primates (from @EvieBee84), Firefly Encyclopedia of Animals (from @saresmoore), and All Creatures Great and Small (from @Prairiehomelibrarian). I'm saving all the other suggestions for future gifts! 😘😘😘😘 (edited) 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage Thanks so much for the ideas @cathysaid @I-read-and-eat @451Degrees @MKWoods @BookInMyHands. You guys are the best bookish friends! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 8y
Nebklvr The Scholastic "Who Would Win" series are short, fun, and interesting. Shark vs killer whale, etc. 8y
Nebklvr Also, books like "Dewey" the library cat are good. I hate it when the animal dies so I stay away from the war dogs 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Nebklvr Thanks! I definitely don't like animals dying in my books - or for kids! 8y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @EvieBee84 @saresmoore @Prairiehomelibrarian My granddaughter loved all three of the books you guys suggested! She especially spent time with the Firefly Encyclopedia reptile section! Thank you all again. 😻 8y
saresmoore I'm so glad to hear it! 8y
EvieBee I'm so glad! 8y

This is an animal book done right. The best picture by far is the swimming crocodile. A favorite things is the “worthy” sections. Are they Selfie Worthy? Besty Worthy? Very well done Animal Planet.
