#JuneSpecials Day 19: Meet Opal Lee, Grandmother of #Juneteenth. My favourite image is the one of Opal Lee, as a young girl, reading poetry books on her grandfather‘s porch – before the pivotal event that has turned her into a teacher, an activist, a “story keeper.” My full review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-owJ

A quick read touching on Texas history that you may not know surrounding Indigenous and enslaved people. The author reminds us how important it is to know our history, and that you can both love and criticize something at the same time. This is an ongoing and important lesson to remember in these frightening times.
Building up my little free library for any of my interested kids and teens. Gorgeous illustrations!
