Our detective this time is investigating a serial killer that is recreating murders from a best selling book. I generally don't like "books within books", so the fact that every other chapter was a chapter of the fictional book made me struggle at the beginning. I thought that presenting this fictional book as something all the characters love was the author shooting herself on the foot, because it was boring me to death. ⬇️

I thought this was a funny book, lots of surprises. But the map really topped it off. This graphic novel is really for everybody, it's cute, easy to read, and it has monsters.

Wow, what a book; and Squidapus isn't just saying that because one of the characters is a Kraken! Lilly lives with two awful parents and finds friendship in an eloquent, friendly Kraken. When he's kidnapped by the circus, Lilly goes on an epic journey to rescue him. But what will she have to give up to do so? What seems to be a modern day Grimm's Fairy Tale quickly evolves into a surprising look at transsexuality and what we lose when we grow up.

I‘m leaving for a family cruise in about two weeks. That means it‘s time to start planning my vacation reading! Above are some thoughts I‘ve had. Feel free to tag/plug any book you‘d recommend in the comments!

For bookclub I had to choose a book with pirates this month. I wasn‘t very excited about reading a book with pirates & I think I went into this half thinking I wasn‘t going to enjoy & at first I didn't.

About a 3rd of the way through though I really started to enjoy. There is a few twists and turns, a kraken, storms, treasure, sneak attacks, everything you‘d expect in a book about pirates.
