Okay #LitsyPaysItForward friends, @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks & I have run into a problem with shipping the books over to Dexter. We've sent two boxes, but it's going to cost Dexter to pick them up from the PO! We don't want to create a financial burden for Dexter, I'm not sure we should keep sending the books (⬇️⬇️)

Smangela We had thought about looking for a mission trip going to the Philippines but I don't know how to go about that (anyone?). Any ideas on perhaps another #goodsamaritan thing to do with the donated books? We don't want to upset anyone but we don't want to put Dexter in an uncomfortable position either. Let us know what you're thinking! 7y

LauraBrook This sucks! Why does he have to pay for gifts?!?!? Stupid post office! Okay, deep breaths. Is there some way to send Dexter money so he can get his packages? Hmmm, trying to think if I know anyone in the Philippines... Will keep my thinking hat on. 7y

cobwebmoth If we can't get them to him then what about children's hospitals? They usually take book donations. I think some prisons take donations too. 7y

Cinfhen That's so upsetting ?I keep seeing that image of Dexter with his "new" books and the joy he felt...there are probably organizations that accept books for overseas distribution who would appreciate our haul ?it's still a way to #payitforward & #sharethejoy 7y

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Robothugs I'm hesitant about sending money... Dexter told me himself that the government/post office is corrupt. Idk!!! Ill do whatever y'all think!! I really like the children's hospital idea! I work in the er and I can get info about St. Jude and Lebonheur... 7y

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I'm very disappointed about this because he was so excited!! He said he will try to get the money for the first two boxes. It will be about $12usd. We have spent $155.00 so far with shipping. (edited) 7y

LauraBrook I can get Philippine pesos in my city. Should I get some and we could mail him the cash? Would that work? Or do you think they'd open the envelope? 7y

minkyb My 2 cents. No pun intended. If we could mail money to Dexter so he can rescue the boxes that are already there that would be great. I don't think it makes sense to send more. It makes me very sad to say this. I never chipped in for shipping so I will be sending a money order or check out in the next fee days. 7y

ScientistSam I agree with @minkyb that if we can, we try to find a way that he can get the boxes that are already sent, but we see whether that works before sending more. And I'm happy with the idea of donating to hospitals or prisons as a fall back, though really sad if we need the fall back. I have a Phillipina friend and I'll also ask her for some ideas. 7y

Lmstraubie I can't even wrap my brain around this! He has to pay for what is rightfully his??? Sigh... don't know if it would be safe to send him money although if we could somehow cover the cost of the first two boxes that would be great. @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks How small were the previous packages that he was able to pick up without cost (the ones just from you)? 7y

ScientistSam My friend suggested using one of the private shipping services specific to US to Philippines mail. It would take longer though, and I don't know if it would work in terms of location or avoiding the fees. But may be worth looking into? This particular one picks up from NYC it looks like but there may be similar ones close to @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks http://fbb.vpweb.com 7y

NCNY Can we wire money to him? Is Western Union still a thing? I'm fine with all the suggestions of alternate places to donate if we can't figure anything out. 7y

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I'm going to message him to see if he thinks he can get the money for the boxes that are already there. Fingers crossed he can!! Then go from there! Whatever happens these books WILL go to someone who loves books and can't financially afford them and someone who will appreciate them the way we all do... I really wanted it to be him... 7y

Luckily we don't have a real deadline so we can take our time and see what we can do. I love how charitable and understanding everyone is ❤️ brainstorming always generates the best ideas IMO ☺️☺️ 7y

Cinfhen The fee Dexter is facing is probably custom taxes, which is total BS,but a way for his govt to squeeze some $ @Lmstraubie @LauraBrook I agree, while my first preference was for Dexter to receive the books anyone in need or want would benefit just as much. 7y

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Everyone sleep on it and think about it over the weekend! I'm really open to the children's hospital or prison idea... if this doesn't work out... I love you guys and so happy to be a part of this wonderful group!! We will still bring happiness to someone 😊 7y

Reecaspieces I have been doing a little research. There are several literacy programs all over the US. We could contact them and see where that leads. 7y

Maggie4483 So sorry I've been MIA and am just now seeing this. This is terrible, and I'm so upset over it! But I agree with everyone, as long as the books go towards a good cause, I'm okay with whatever everyone else wants to do. 7y

ScientistSam @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks don't stress about it - we'll find a way to get him the first two boxes (maybe doing a wire transfer to pay back the fees) and there are a lot of good causes that could use books. I think all of us just want to see them go to a good home, and I'm sure we'll find one. 7y

Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Robothugs thank you!!! I'm going to find somewhere that doesn't involve any fees... even if I have to drive to Memphis (the nearest children's hospital) or Pearl MS (the nearest women's prison) unless I can find a church that someone ministers to these places! 7y
