For the most part, this book is kinda boring and annoying. But, UGH!, this line got me. This is literally all I‘m looking for. 😭

This quote wasn‘t actually in this book (and in fact may not have even been written by Dorothy Parker at all), but it‘s attributed to her, and one of my favorite lines about one of my favorite drinks. I love a Dirty Bombay Sapphire Martini with blue cheese stuffed olives. 🍸
There were a TON of short stories in this compilation. Some were funny, some were sad, many were forgettable, and a few were problematic. But overall I enjoyed it.
April‘s #Bookspin is one of my #FoodAndLit #Venezuela picks, and my #Doublespin is one I‘ve been trying to get to FOREVER.
The year is still young, but it‘s going to take something reeeeeaaaaalllllllyyyyy special to unseat Hello Beautiful for my favorite of the year. I think it‘s the best book I‘ve read since A Little Life.
(I didn‘t finish a single book in all of February…hence the X).
#BookspinBingo for March.
Side note: I am having so much fun with Canva. I wish I could afford the paid subscription.
March #Bookspin and #Doublespin! ☘️🏀🌼🇮🇪⛹️♂️🌷⚾️
Between St. Patty‘s Day, Spring Break, March Madness, Spring Training, and Spring Break (I REALLY love Spring Break), March might be my favorite month (aside from October, of course).
I didn‘t finish a single book in February, but hopefully a whole week off will help me get back on track.
My #Bookspin #Doublespin for March. I love March Madness (but I‘m bummed that it starts after we get back from Spring Break this year).
Making may way through this year‘s Oscar noms & found this documentary short in which kids are interviewed about how they‘ve been affected by their schools‘ book banning policies. Very moving, but take it with a grain of salt…the kids who were interviewed obviously had to have parental permission, and I think it‘s safe to assume that that wouldn‘t have been granted by parents who agree with these policies.
Still…worth a watch.
When you have a bad day, but it‘s okay because it‘s #NationalMargaritaDay and your local takeout margarita bar is having a BOGO special…so you get four. And then go to Taco Bell, too.
Hello Beautiful and “Hello, Beautiful.”
My pretty girl isn‘t feeling good tonight, 😿 so I‘m neglecting my chores in favor of giving her lots of love.
I‘ve toyed with the idea of getting a tiny “So it goes” on my arm (and “Let it be” in the same place on the opposite arm). Maybe someday. But I think my next tattoo will be a starfish, because I love the starfish story (“I made a difference to that one”). #SundayFunday
A few days late, but, oh man, was this good. Definitely adding this Ghanaian Chicken Chichinga to the rotation. I‘m still struggling to get into this book. Not because it isn‘t good, but because it‘s just so heavy.

I really was planning to just hand-write all my #BookspinBingo boards this year, but Canva and Pic Collage are too much fun. 🥳 I‘m not even sorry about how extra I‘m being.
Thank you @Chelsea.Poole for this awesome template! This will be so helpful for keeping my #Bookspin and #Doublespin picks organized!
Bookspin-Bel Canto (also one of my February #Roll100 picks)
Double spin-Homegoing (last months #FoodandLit pick that I didn‘t get to)
Easy choice for my favorite read in January.
Thanks @Catsandbooks for this template! #BookBracket2024
No Bingo, but definitely not my worst month. My goal is to finish a book every time I have a day off, and I accomplished that in January. February should be extra easy, since I only have one day off all month.
#BookspinBingo
1. Yes! I have the same last name as my dad (😉 just kidding). But I really do have the same middle name as my uncle Joe and my cousins Mike and Clint. But theirs is spelled “Lee” and mine is “Leigh.”
2. Only child here. I have a stepbrother and stepsister, but we‘re not close. I haven‘t seen them in close to 20 years.
3. Tagged! I loved the Durrells! Everyone was such a character. #WondrousWednesday
I loved it! And I want to make friends with an octopus! 🐙
Treated myself to the fish and chips that Ethan and Cameron never got to. #CookingtheBooks #TakeoutEdition #BookAndDinner
On my way to an IRL bookclub I found on Meetup and I. am. So. NERVOUS. What if there are a lot of people there? What if there aren‘t a lot of people there? What if I say something dumb? What if I don‘t say anything at all? Where do I sit? How do I human? Gah!!!
Anyway…wish me luck. Or a new personality.
There was surprisingly little baseball in this considering there‘s a baseball on the cover. But even though it didn‘t scratch my off-season itch with balls & strikes & hits & diamond shaped fields, this book was just the cutest. I loved both of the MCs, flaws and all.
Enchiladas would have probably been a better choice for #CookingTheBooks (super cute cooking scene), but thinking this was a baseball book made me want a hot dog real bad 😀
I was hoping, with so much discussion of the meals in this book, there would be some good Italian food descriptions. But, since there weren‘t, I made a Shrimp Portofino based on the location. This was actually my dinner last Sunday (when I planned to finish this book), but didn‘t finish until yesterday. #CookingTheBooks #BookAndDinner
#LunchAndABook I have four hours to kill between my morning shift and an afternoon meeting (seriously, who schedules meetings on a holiday weekend!?!?!). Spending my time with a burger and a murder. 🔪 🍔 📕
January #BookspinBingo is a LOT of me just trying to catch up on my #192025 challenge. I‘m still in the twenties. The NINETEEN-twenties! I‘m literally 100 years behind. 🤦🏻♀️
Just under the wire, but here‘s my #Roll100 for 2024. It‘s almost exactly the same as last year because I‘m the #MayorOfFailure. Here‘s to a better 2024 🍾🥂🎆🎉
I actually wouldn‘t mind getting glammed up and going out for New Year‘s Eve, but I don‘t because I refuse to be out on the roads on a drinking holiday. So usually I just stay in and watch the ball drop, then pop a bottle of champagne for myself at midnight. Might not make it tonight - I have a mean case of the Sunday scaries about going back to work on Tuesday and am worried about oversleeping after two weeks off.
#WinterGames #SnowflakeSquad
Looks like everyone is trying to update their Goodreads before the year ends. 😕
StoryGraph is working PERFECTLY, though. 😀
This was a light, easy read. Although I‘m not the target audience, it definitely had some enjoyable moments. I didn‘t really care for either main character, but Raphael the corgi made up for it. I also could have done without all the “likes” - I know that‘s how kids talk (hell, I talk like that sometimes), but it was distracting when reading.
This was a #SnowflakeSquad team read for #WinterGames, & I found 79 word search words for 840 points.
Book-Adjacent Post:
I LOVED this movie!!!! Oscars for everyone (but especially Danielle Brooks)!
Staying up late watching A Bad Moms Christmas. I‘m not even a mom, but I LOVE this movie. These six actresses are some of my favorites.
#WinterGames
Thank you so much @Jerdencon for my #JolabokaflodSwap gift! I would have posted sooner, but I started the book as soon as I opened it (and was late to my Christmas Eve celebrations). And the coconut chocolates are perfect. 🥥
Happy #jolabokaflod everyone! Thank you @MaleficentBookDragon for organizing!
This was a tough, complicated read about tough, complicated issues. The author firmly believes they are anti-death penalty, until they view a taped confession of a convicted child predator and murderer & immediately decide he should be sentenced to death. I‘ll admit that when it comes to capital punishment, I am much more stereotypically Texan than most other issues. But I also believe that it is used wrong and that, for most people…(continued)⬇️
I read this in high school, and it still really is such a great book to make history more accessible. Makes me want to go read everything about the Russian Revolution.
Plus…I easily found 100+ #WGWordsearch words (thank you, Snowball! 🐖). #WinterGames
This kid…🙄
A few years ago, my cousin and I got to talking about this book. I told her I had it but had never read it. She said she had read it as an adult and hated it, but everyone she knew who read it for the first time as a teen loved it. I concur. At 40 years old, I can‘t think of anyone whose opinion I care less about than a misanthropic teenage boy (who, if this book took place today, would definitely be considered an “incel”). Cont‘d…
So, I‘ve been pretty abysmal at #WinterGames so far, and a horrible #SnowflakeSquad teammate. But I have been reading, and have finished 5 books so far this month (which is pretty good for me).
I‘m also watching Big Brother Reindeer Games (which is *technically* based on 1984).
So, as of now, I‘m up to a pathetic 88 points, but now that I‘m off work, I‘ll try to be better about contributing.
This month has been…a lot. Work was crazy, then I got sick and missed 2 1/2 days (I NEVER call in sick), so when I got back it was even crazier.
But, as of 5:08pm yesterday, I‘m DONE with work in 2023 (*happy dance!*)!!!! Now I‘ve got nothing but time for reading, Litsy-ing, and being a productive member of the #WinterGames #SnowflakeSquad.
The tagged book is my #Bookspin, and The Black Moth is my #Doublespin.
Forgot to take a picture because, well, I ALWAYS forget to take a picture. But my #jolabokaflodswap package is in the mail. It should arrive at its destination in New York on Tuesday.
First-timer here! Ive never done one of these challenges before, and I‘m a little confused about #WinterGames. Do all of the books have to be Christmas/Winter themed? Or do I get points for any book completed? Also, I know I‘m responsible for tracking my own points - does anyone have a good tracking system they could share? I just want to be a good teammate! #SnowflakeSquad
I definitely didn‘t need a lesson on what it‘s like to be an introvert (I‘m pretty much a subject-matter expert). But I do wish I could casually pass this along to everyone I know so that someone would understand me.
Yesterday I listened to someone I‘ve worked closely with for 8 years have an hour long conversation with someone who‘s been around for about 8 weeks. That I‘ve never had that kind of convo with them hurts more than I can explain.
My #Roll100 for November. I decided to do 1 *AND* 100 because there‘s nothing I love more than setting unrealistic expectations for myself. On the other hand, the pick for roll 3 should be a quick read, so it balances out.
